Background: Facial paralysis due to cancer can be misdiagnosed as Bell's palsy. This study aims to clearly identify and quantify diagnostic differentiators and further evaluate the prognostic implications of misdiagnosis.
Methods: Adult patients older than 18 years with facial palsy of unknown or cancerous etiology presenting between 2009 and 2023 were reviewed.
The adult mammalian heart has been demonstrated to be endowed with low but real turnover capacity, especially for cardiomyocytes, the key functional cell type. The source, however, of that turnover capacity remains controversial. In this regard, we have defined and characterized a resident multipotent cardiac mouse progenitor population, +DR (for + Damage-Responsive cells).

We used an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) with sonicated Leptospira interrogans serovar copenhageni M 20.

T helper (Th) 17 cells are involved in the pathogenesis of MS and its animal model of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) by infiltrating the CNS and producing effector molecules that engage resident glial cells. Among these glial cells, astrocytes have a central role in coordinating inflammatory processes by responding to cytokines and chemokines released by Th17 cells.

The pathophysiology of ACLF involves elevated systemic inflammation leading to organ failure, along with immune dysfunction that heightens susceptibility to bacterial infections. However, it is unclear how these aspects are associated with recovery and nonrecovery in ACLF.

Although choice of materials for cranial remodeling has changed through the years, computer-designed polyetheretherketone (PEEK) implant has gained traction as a preferred material used for cranioplasty. However, long-term outcomes and complications of PEEK implants remain limited.

The depressor anguli oris (DAO) muscle has been a common myectomy target for the treatment of perioral synkinesis. While addition of buccinator myectomies to DAO myectomies has risen, no studies have analyzed the effects of buccinator myectomies.

Improvements toward the restoration of a natural smile have been obtained with selective neurectomies and depressor anguli oris myectomy, but the lower lip frequently remains asymmetric and cranially displaced. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the mentalis muscle on the position and symmetry of the lower lip in patients with synkinesis and to assess the added benefit of neurectomies of nerves innervating the mentalis muscle in improving the lower lip configuration and mandibular teeth show.

Background: Currently, no treatment provides lasting relief for patients with DPN. The benefits of nerve decompression remain inconclusive.
Background: In postparetic synkinesis, muscle tone imbalance between upper and lower lip depressors and elevators results in the inability to produce an effective smile. Surgical treatments to improve smile focus on restoring tonicity balance between perioral muscles by weakening hypertoned muscles through selective myectomies or selective neurectomies. The goal of this study was to compare objective outcomes between selective myectomies alone with those of selective myectomies combined with selective neurectomies.

Hypotension and intraoperative blood pressure fluctuations during OLT are associated with liver graft dysfunction, acute kidney failure, and increased risk of 30-d mortality. Patients also frequently present hemodynamic instability due to various causes, including cardiac arrest.

The ideal staging of dual-innervated gracilis FFMTs has not been investigated. We aim to compare objective long-term outcomes following one- and two-stage dual-innervated gracilis FFMTs.

This process is ultimately driven by the coordinated proliferation and differentiation of mammary epithelial cells. However, the endogenous molecular factors regulating these developmental dynamics are still poorly defined.

Eight patients with vascular graft infections were included, one with bilateral infections, for a total of nine cases from January 2016 through June 2021. All the patients underwent wound exploration and placement of human gelatin thrombin matrix with rifampin.

Factors predicting poor response to vaccination and risk of breakthrough infection are important data to target booster vaccine programs. The primary aim of the current study was to measure humoral responses to 2 doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

Background: The purpose of this study was to compare long-term tone and excursion in single- versus dual-innervated free functional muscle transfer (FFMT) in patients with longstanding facial paralysis.
Methods: Patients with longstanding facial palsy treated with an FFMT innervated either by a nerve-to-masseter graft (single-innervation group) or nerve-to-masseter and cross-facial-nerve grafts (dual-innervation group) were included. One-year minimum follow-up was required.
A hallmark of many malignant tumors is dedifferentiated (immature) cells bearing slight or no resemblance to the normal cells from which the cancer originated. Tumor dedifferentiated cells exhibit a higher capacity to survive to chemo and radiotherapies and have the ability to incite tumor relapse. Inducing cancer cell differentiation would abolish their self-renewal and invasive capacity and could be combined with the current standard of care, especially in poorly differentiated and aggressive tumors (with worst prognosis).

However, the design of selective CB agonists is still challenging because of the high homology with the cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB) and for the yet unclear molecular basis of the agonist/antagonist switch. Here, the 1,3-benzoxazine scaffold is presented as a versatile chemotype for the design of CB agonists from which 25 derivatives were synthesized.

Although the luminal subtype, which represents >70% of BC cases, is generally associated with a favorable outcome, it is susceptible to metastatic relapse as late as 15 years after treatment discontinuation. Seeking therapeutic approaches as well as screening tools to properly identify those patients with a higher risk of recurrence is therefore essential.

Although a lateral tarsal strip (LTS) provides corneal coverage through superolateral lower eyelid pull, the unopposed lateral force may result in lateral displacement of the lower eyelid punctum and overall worsening asymmetry. A tensor fascia lata (TFL) lower eyelid sling may overcome some of these limitations.
