"The problem is not detection, it is treatment": Exploring Why Women Needing Pre-Cervical Cancer Care are Lost to Follow-Up at the Hospital in Iquitos, Peru.

Background: The objective of this study was to investigate the barriers to follow-up of women with cervical lesions suspicious of cancer who were ineligible for primary-level treatment and needed, but did not receive, hospital-level care in Loreto, Peru.

Methods: In-depth, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 HPV-positive women requiring hospital-level follow-up care for cervical lesions suspicious of cancer but for whom there was no documentation of completion of treatment. After thematically analyzing these patient interviews, interview findings were presented to seven doctors and five nurse-midwives at both the hospital and the primary levels for comments and suggestions regarding barriers to treatment.

Analysis of physical activity in psoriatic arthritis: relationship with clinical and analytical parameters and comorbidity-description of the sedentary patient.

Objective: This study aimed to relate physical activity and a sedentary lifestyle to clinical, biological, functional, and comorbid parameters in a cohort of patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA).

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 232 PsA patients. Physical activity and sedentary lifestyle were obtained using the (IPAQ) questionnaire.

Clinical Features and Disease Activity in Psoriatic Arthritis: A Sex-Related Perspective on Leptin and Comorbidity.

Many studies have addressed the sex differences in patients with psoriatic arthritis, although these are aimed more at describing the phenotype than at investigating the causes underlying these differences. The aims of our study were to assess the presence of clinical features in relation to sex, and to measure the effect on disease activity of different comorbidities in each sex. This was a cross-sectional study in which the following factors were measured: the clinical features of the disease, disease activity, the physical function and the disease impact.

Influence of comorbidities not associated with fibromyalgia on neuropathic pain in patients with psoriatic arthritis: relationship with clinical parameters.

Objective: Neuropathic pain (NP) may influence disease activity assessment in patients with psoriatic arthritis, this relationship being traditionally based on the presence of concomitant fibromyalgia. We analyzed the influence of other comorbidities on NP and the relationship between pain and various clinical parameters.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in patients diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis, excluding patients with a previous diagnosis of fibromyalgia, depression, anxiety, diabetes and/or dyslipidemia under treatment.

The assessment of psoriatic arthritis is complex and multidimensional. It is increasingly common to include the patient perspective using patient-reported outcomes. Efficiency of Artificial Insemination at Natural Estrus in Organic Ewes.

Hormonal treatments used in the artificial insemination (AI) of sheep can cause several physiological problems that can affect negatively fertility and animal health; however, AI protocols based on the detection of natural estrus offer a more sustainable option and can achieve high fertility. In this study, an AI protocol at natural estrus in organic sheep was performed. In the first phase (AI protocol development), 125 ewes were exocervically inseminated, and their fertility was assessed based on the following factors: number of AI, physiological state, body condition, estrus detection-AI interval, and vaginal fluids in cervix.

Milk Quality and Carbon Footprint Indicators of Dairy Sheep Farms Depend on Grazing Level and Identify the Different Management Systems.

Currently, there are very few studies in the dairy sheep sector associating milk quality and indicators regarding carbon footprint and their link to grazing levels. For 1 year, monthly milk samples and records related to environmental emissions and management systems were collected through surveys from 17 dairy sheep farms in the region of Castilla y León (Spain), in order to relate this information to the use of natural pastures under free grazing. Indicators were constructed on the collected data and subjected to a multivariate statistical procedure that involved a factor analysis, a cluster analysis and a population canonical analysis.

Objectives: A potential point of concern among clinicians is whether results derived from the clinical trials can be reasonably applied or generalised to a definable group of patients seen in real world. It can be the case of the GiACTA study that is a phase III randomised controlled trial of tocilizumab (TCZ) in giant cell arteritis (GCA). To address this question, we compared the clinical features and the responses to TCZ from the GiACTA trial patients with those from a series of GCA seen in the daily clinical practice.

This tutorial discusses continuous electromembrane extraction (c-EME) coupled directly to mass spectrometry (MS), and the applicability of such systems for on-line and real-time monitoring of in-vitro drug metabolism. Parent drug substances and corresponding drug metabolites are extracted from the metabolic reaction mixture, through a supported liquid membrane (SLM), and into an acceptor solution on the other side. Extraction is accomplished using an external electrical field sustained over the SLM.

Cardiac involvement in systemic sclerosis: differences between clinical subsets and influence on survival.

Cardiac involvement (CI) is a known complication of SSc associated with increased mortality. Our objective was to describe a cohort of patients with SSc and CI and to assess the differences between cutaneous subsets regarding their presentation and survival. Three hundred and ninety-three Spanish patients from a single center, diagnosed with SSc, were retrospectively studied for evidence of CI using noninvasive and invasive tests from 1976 to 2011.

Mechanical thrombectomy with 'ADAPT' technique by transcervical access in acute ischemic stroke.

Background: The mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for endovascular clot retrieval has dramatically improved successful revascularization and clinical outcome in selected acute stroke patients. MT is typically performed via a transfemoral approach, but catheterization of the occluded vessel can be problematic in cases of extensive vessel tortuosity. We describe a case of MT with the 'ADAPT' technique by direct carotid access due to an inability to catheterize the ICA by a transfemoral approach for acute cerebral ischemia in the setting of left MCA occlusion.

Summary Objectives: The aim of this study is to describe the surgical technique, and assess the complications and middle-term results of the Contasure Needleless (Neomedic International), a single incision TOT sling for the surgical treatment of stress urinary incontinence. The main concept of this device is that it is not a mini-sling, it has 138% more surface area. We are analyzing the results of a minimally invasive solution that is a TOT like sling with the same known benefits of a TOT and the advantages of a single incision technique.

Results: In the columnar epithelia of imaginal discs or follicle cells, mutation of sds22 causes contraction of cells along their apical-basal axis, resulting in a more cuboidal morphology.

[Investigation of a foodborne intoxication in a high-density penitentiary center].

Background: On September 25 2005, more than 100 inmates (almost 5% of the 1,800 prison population) experienced sudden onset gastroenteritis. This outbreak was the largest foodborne outbreak described in a prison population in Spain. Our objective was to confirm the outbreak, identify risk factors, implement control measures, and provide recommendations.
