Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is the most frequent acquired thrombophilia of autoimmune basis. Pregnancy complications of APS may include recurrent miscarriage, and placental dysfunction presenting as fetal death, prematurity, intrauterine growth restriction and preeclampsia. For the management of obstetric APS, a coordinated medical-obstetric management is essential, and this should start for a preconceptional visit in order to estimate the individual risk for complications, adjust therapies and establish the indications for preconceptional and first-trimester therapy.

Objectives: To assess the associations and prognostic value of scleroderma patterns by nailfold videocapillaroscopy (NVC) in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) and cutaneous subsets.

Methods: At baseline, 1356 SSc patients from the RESCLE registry were compared according to the scleroderma pattern as Late pattern and non-Late pattern, which included Early and Active patterns. Patient characteristics, disease features, survival time and causes of death were analysed.

Objective: To compare the efficacy, toxicity and glucocorticoid (GC)-sparing effects of intravenous cyclophosphamide (iv CYC) with other immunosuppressive regimes as the induction treatment for Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathy-Related Interstitial Lung Disease (IIM-ILD).

Methods: Observational comparative study of patients with IIM-ILD from the EPIMAR and Cruces cohorts. The main efficacy outcome was a 6 to 12-month improvement >10% in the forced vital capacity (FVC) from baseline.

Aim: Patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) are at increased risk of cancer, a growing cause of non-SSc-related death among these patients. We analyzed the increased cancer risk among Spanish patients with SSc using standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) and identified independent cancer risk factors in this population.

Material And Methods: Spanish Scleroderma Registry data were analyzed to determine the demographic characteristics of patients with SSc, and logistic regression was used to identify cancer risk factors.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD) in patients with Systemic Sclerosis (SSc) to understand its prevalence and the factors linked to it.
  • Out of 1,517 SSc patients, 21% were found to have LVDD, with associations identified relating to older age, longer diagnosis time, presence of telangiectasia, and specific treatments.
  • LVDD in SSc patients correlates with higher mortality rates and worse survival outcomes, though it wasn’t deemed an independent death risk factor.

To assess severity markers and outcomes of patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) with or without pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH-SSc/non-PAH-SSc), and the impact of interstitial lung disease (ILD) on PAH-SSc. Non-PAH-SSc patients from the Spanish SSc registry and PAH-SSc patients from the Spanish PAH registry were included. A total of 364 PAH-SSc and 1589 non-PAH-SSc patients were included.

Objective: To compare the influence of aPLs on global and cardiovascular damage in patients with SLE diagnosed before and after the year 2000.

Methods: Two hundred and eighty-six patients from the Lupus-Cruces cohort with a minimum follow-up of 5 years were divided into two subcohorts according to the date of diagnosis, before 2000 (less than 2000) and from 2000 on (2000 or more). We compared the mean Systemic Lupus Erythematosus International Collaborating Clinics-American College of Rheumatology (SLICC-ACR) Damage Index score and global and cardiovascular damage-free survival rates in the presence or absence of aPL in both subcohorts.

Introduction: Endothelin antagonist receptors (ERAs) and phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors (PDE5i) are beneficial in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and digital ulcers (DU) and prevent from DU recurrences. Our study aimed to determine the difference in the incidence rate of PAH and scleroderma renal crisis (SRC) in patients with SSc and DU (SSc-DU) under ERAs/PDE5i or without treatment.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study including SSc-DU patients from the Spanish Scleroderma Registry (RESCLE).

A few scores predicting the short-term risk of mortality in Systemic sclerosis (SSc) have been reported to date. Our study aimed to create a predictive 15-year all-cause mortality score at the time of the diagnosis of SSc. The study was based on the Spanish Scleroderma Registry (RESCLE).

Objectives: Rituximab (RTX) is a biological treatment used off-label in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This survey aimed to investigate the off-label use of RTX in Europe and compare the characteristics of patients receiving RTX with those receiving conventional therapy.

Methods: Data on patients with SLE receiving RTX were taken from the International Registry for Biologics in SLE retrospective registry and complemented with data on patients with SLE treated with conventional therapy.

Material And Methods: 211 patients were included. A transthoracic echocardiogram was used for this study.

Objective: To determine the prevalence of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) and their association with obstetric outcomes in women with preeclampsia.

Methods: The study included 150 patients. Clinical variables, risk factors, and severity criteria for preeclampsia and aPL were analyzed.
