Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) increases the risk of premature mortality, primarily due to cardiovascular diseases (CVD). While Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation (SCORE) and its updated version SCORE2 are used to estimate CVD risk, these tools may not adequately capture the full cardiovascular risk profile in RA patients.

Objectives: This study aims to compare the effectiveness of SCORE2 versus SCORE in predicting the presence of carotid plaques or increased intima-media thickness (IMT), as detected by ultrasound, in RA patients.

Background: IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a rare, systemic immune-mediated fibro-inflammatory condition with an unclear etiology and pathophysiology, potentially affecting multiple organs. It presents with common clinical, radiological, and serological characteristics. This study aims to compare the latest two IgG4-RD classification and diagnostic criteria: Umehara-Okazaki 2011 and ACR/EULAR 2019.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the long-term survival and discontinuation rates of subcutaneous biosimilar tumor necrosis factor inhibitors compared to their originator counterparts in patients with rheumatic diseases.
  • A total of 4162 patients received treatments, with biosimilars showing lower discontinuation rates (33.37%) compared to originators (53.32%), primarily due to inefficacy.
  • Factors like female sex and obesity increased the risk of discontinuation, but when looking specifically at reasons for stopping the medication, no significant differences were found between biosimilars and originators in terms of long-term survival rates.

Introduction: Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a complex and heterogeneous inflammatory disease. Secukinumab, a biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (bDMARD), has extensive clinical evidence of efficacy and safety in the treatment of PsA but data in clinical practice are still limited. This study aims to provide real-world evidence on secukinumab use, effectiveness, and persistence in PsA.

Introduction: Inflammatory rheumatic diseases usually affect women of childbearing age treated with biologic drugs. However, there is a lack of literature on the efficacy and toxicity of biologic disease-modifying drugs during pregnancy. The aim of this study was to determine the presence of pregnant patients treated with bDMARDs in a real-world dataset and to examine the impact of pregnancy and lactation on the evolution of rheumatic disease in a registry of Spanish patients.

Background: Secukinumab is a biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (bDMARD) that has demonstrated efficacy in the treatment of axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA, i.e., ankylosing spondylitis and non-radiographic axSpA) across various clinical trials.

Aim: To assess the golimumab retention rate during up to 8 years of follow up, and any associated factors.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of the BIOBADASER (Spanish registry of biological drugs) database, assessing all adults who had ever started golimumab >6 months before the analysis for an approved indication (rheumatoid arthritis [RA], axial spondyloarthritis [SpA] or psoriatic arthritis [PsA]).

Results: Among 885 patients (RA 267, axial SpA 370, PsA 248) receiving 944 cycles of golimumab, the retention rate of golimumab was 71.

Objective: To analyse the effect of secukinumab on self-reported variables of patients diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis and/or ankylosing spondylitis in relation to their health status, pain, fatigue, sleep and quality of life.

Methods: A six-month, observational, longitudinal, prospective, multicentre study was conducted with 39 patients who initiated treatment with secukinumab as therapy for psoriatic arthritis and/or spondylitis. The main variables were changes in patient-reported measures and they were evaluated by means of the questionnaires: FACIT-fatigue, Insomnia Severity Index, EuroQol-3L-5D and PsAQoL.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines cases of new or worsening psoriasis in patients receiving biological drugs, specifically focusing on chronic inflammatory diseases.
  • A total of 26 cases of paradoxical psoriasis were identified, with 93% of those patients treated with anti-TNFα drugs, notably adalimumab, which accounted for half of the occurrences.
  • The issue is generally reversible, but the chance of lesion recurrence increases if another anti-TNFα drug is reintroduced after discontinuation.

Objective: To describe a multicentre case series of new onset or worsening of psoriasis in patients treated with biological drugs.

Material And Methods: Descriptive study. We reviewed the clinical history of patients with chronic inflammatory disease (CID) treated with biological drugs, who developed new onset or worsening of psoriasis during the follow-up period.

Objective: To determine and analyse the organisational approach adopted by Spanish rheumatologists to osteoporosis (OP) to define strategic priorities.

Material And Method: A group of experts designed a questionnaire on OP in the rheumatologist practice. The survey was sent to the Spanish Society of Rheumatology (SER) members.

The retention rate of a biological drug (percentage of patients remaining on treatment over time) provides an index of a drug's overall effectiveness. The golimumab retention rate as first-line biological therapy was high in clinical trial extensions lasting 5 years. Real-world studies also indicate good retention rates but have been of shorter duration.

Objective: To investigate in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) the rate and reason of discontinuation of tumour necrosis factor (TNF) antagonists over the past decade.

Methods: RA patients in BIOBADASER 2.0 were stratified according to the start date of their first TNF antagonist into 2000-3, 2004-6 and 2007-9 interval years.

Behçet's disease (BD) is a systemic vasculitis, with a more aggressive course in young males. Orogenital ulcers, uveitis and cutaneous lesions are the most frequent manifestations. We analyzed the effects of adalimumab on six patients with BD pretreated with inmunosupressive therapy, two of whom had received infliximab.
