Purpose: To evaluate the response of human tenocytes in culture to 7 commercially available extracellular matrix (ECM) patches.

Methods: Four samples of each ECM were incubated in human tenocyte cultures by use of standard methods. Cell adhesion, cell proliferation, and cellular production of type I and type III collagen, decorin, and scleraxis were measured for each sample according to established experimental methods.

Tendinopathy is a vexing clinical problem as its onset and development is often asymptomatic and unrecognized until tendon rupture. While extensively studied in the rotator cuff, Achilles, and patellar tendons, no study to date has examined the histological and molecular characteristics of the tendinopathic biceps long-head (LHB). The anatomy of the LHB is unique in that it comprises intra- and extra-articular portions, each exposed to differing loading patterns.

Background: Subpectoral biceps tenodesis with an interference screw has been shown to be an effective procedure from both an anatomic and biomechanical perspective. There have been no clinical outcome data on this procedure to date.

Tendon to bone integration after rotator cuff repair is not a reproducible process. During repair, bioabsorbable and nonabsorbable suture material is universally used to facilitate the procedure. Improving the biological architecture of inert suture might aid in overall tendon to bone healing.
