There is a continuous search for better technical alternatives for the treatment of abdominal contour deformities in the practice of plastic surgeons. LADE-lipoabdominoplasty (LAP) with anatomical definition-is a step ahead of the traditional LAP technique. This technique incorporated the principles of highlighting the definition of the abdominal musculature, achieving more natural results with fewer reminders of a surgical intervention.

Lipoabdominoplasty is one of the most frequent abdominal body contouring procedures performed today. It guarantees a safe combination of abdominoplasty and liposuction while minimizing the risk of ischemic flap complications. This is because of the limited undermining performed and the liposuction adjunct, both of which minimize perforator injury.

Traditional abdominal plastic surgery results in a high rate of morbidity because of the necessity for a large undermining of the flap. In 2001, Saldanha, using the term "lipoabdominoplasty" for the first time, standardized a selective undermining, corresponding to 30% of the traditional undermining, between the medial borders of the rectus abdominal muscles. This procedure combines 2 traditional techniques, abdominoplasty and liposuction.

Background: Abdominoplasty is one of the most common aesthetic operations. Wide bibliographic research has revealed that there is a safe method whereby two techniques--liposuction and abdominoplasty--can be associated in the same procedure. The authors present a new abdominoplasty technique combining a selective undermining with complete abdominal liposuction.
