Background: Laparoscopic gastrectomy offers advantages in the postoperative period compared to the open approach. Most studies have been performed on distal gastrectomies; however, laparoscopic total gastrectomy (LTG) is not universally accepted. AIM: The aim of this study was to assess the results of LTG, on postoperative morbidity outcomes and long-term survival.

The existence of other forms of transmission and the possible role of pseudocysts or cyst-like structures as resistant forms requires rethinking the current management and control of this parasitic disease in the future in some livestock regions of the world.

Understanding the substrate's morphology and conditions of aqueous solution that favor both enzymatic activity and the disruption of LPS aggregates are crucial in developing agents that can counteract the new trend of multidrug resistance by gram-negative bacteria. In this study, we developed two LPS morphologies using LPS from as a model to study the hydrolytic response when using a lipase treatment.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA number of mobile HIV prevention interventions have been developed to increase uptake of HIV prevention services such as HIV testing and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Most of these interventions have been tested among urban populations. However, sexual and gender minority (SGM) groups in rural areas might also benefit from mobile HIV prevention interventions.

The objective of the present work was to germinate grains of to evaluate the effect on the soluble protein content and the anti-inflammatory activity. The grains were subjected to 10 days of germination at 24 °C and relative humidity of 75%.

Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) is applied in the study of different cognitive processes or clinical conditions as enhancing cognitive skills, motor rehabilitation, and control. However, many approaches focus on using a robust classifier instead of providing a better feature space. This work develops a feature representation methodology through the kernel canonical correlation analysis to reveal nonlinear relations between filter-banked common spatial patterns (CSP) extracted.

This study investigated copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) hydroxychloride cosupplementation on the growth performance, diarrhea frequency, carcass, meat quality, and antioxidant activity in grower-finisher pigs. A total of 256 pigs were used from 70 to 154 days (d) of age, distributed in four treatments, with eight pigs in each pen and eight replications per treatment. Diets were provided to grower pigs from 70 to 112 days old and in the finisher, 112 to 154 days old.

During 316 days, 30 gilts were distributed into three groups: (1) Control, fed a basal diet + milk from cows without oil; (2) n-3, fed a basal diet + milk from cows fed a diet enriched with linseed oil; (3) n-6, fed a basal diet + milk from cows fed a diet enriched with soybean oil. The gilts receiving the diets containing PUFA had higher serum urea and very-low-density lipoprotein levels and lower serum total protein and low-density lipoprotein levels compared to the Control group.

This study evaluated the effects of supplying altrenogest from day 6-12 of pregnancy on the endometrial glandular epithelium, corpora lutea (CL) morphology, and endometrial and CL gene expression. A total of 12 crossbred females (Landrace × Large White) were used. The females were assigned to 4 treatments according to a random design with a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement, with two categories (sow or gilt) and two treatments (non-treated and treated with altrenogest).

Background: Markerless systems to capture body motion require no markers to be attached to the body, thereby improving clinical feasibility and testing time. However, the lack of markers might affect the accuracy of measurements.
Objective: This study aimed to determine the absolute reliability and concurrent validity of the Kinect system with MotionMetrix software for spatiotemporal variables during running at a comfortable velocity, by comparing data between the combination system and two widely used systems-OptoGait and high-speed video analysis at 1000 Hz.

Background: Gastric cancer is the second leading cause of death by cancer worldwide. Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is a technique that allows en bloc resection of early lesions of the digestive tract. It has curative potential in selected patients and benefits over gastrectomy for the treatment of early gastric cancer (EGC).

This expression is dependent on the transcription factor Fezf2, as well as the transcriptional regulator Aire, but the entire picture of the transcriptional program has been obscure. Here, we found that the chromatin remodeler Chd4, also called Mi-2β, plays a key role in the self-antigen expression in medullary thymic epithelial cells.

Research Question: This study aimed to examine the effect of fatigue induced by a running protocol on spatiotemporal gait parameters, step variability and vertical (Kvert) and leg stiffness (Kleg) during running on a treadmill.
Methods: Twenty-two trained male endurance runners performed a 60-min time trial run.

Methods And Results: The effect of consumption of 2% or 10% cooked chickpeas on carcinogenesis-induced colon azoxymethane (AOM)/dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) in ICR mice was determined. Protein oxidation and lipids were determined by colorimetric methods and oxidation of DNA through the identification of adducts 8-hydroxy-2'-desoxiguanosine and proliferation markers (proliferating cell nuclear antigen [PCNA], Ki-67, and β-catenin), and inflammation (cyclooxygenase [COX]-2 and inducible nitric oxide synthase [iNOS]) were identified by immunohistochemistry reactions.
The perception of music depends on the normal function of the peripheral and central auditory system. Aged subjects without hearing loss have altered music perception, including pitch and temporal features. Presbycusis or age-related hearing loss is a frequent condition in elderly people, produced by neurodegenerative processes that affect the cochlear receptor cells and brain circuits involved in auditory perception.
