Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease with worldwide distribution caused by pathogenic spp. Pathogenic spp. are shed in urine of infected hosts and transmitted via ingestion of contaminated food or water, inoculation, inhalation of aerosolized urine, and absorption through mucous membranes.
