The Vibrio fischeri ecotoxicological assay analyses inlet and outlet wastewater samples from two urban wastewater treatment plants in Catania, Sicily, Italy. The growing usage of glucocorticoids for a variety of diseases raises concerns since these drugs, including the anti-inflammatory dexamethasone (DEX), are frequently found in the environment. The impact of DEX was evaluated on mussels Mytilus galloprovincialis (Lamarck, 1819) by exposure to environmental concentrations (C1: 4 ng/L; C2: 40 ng/L; C3: 400 ng/L; C4: 2000 ng/L), and sampling at 3 (T3), 6 (T6), and 12 (T12) days. Toxicological Implications of Platinum Group Elements (PGEs): A Systematic Review of and Studies Using Mammalian Models.

Background: The six Platinum group metal elements (PGEs) comprising Ruthenium, Rhodium, Palladium, Platinum, Iridium and Osmium are grouped together in the periodic table. Human activities are mostly responsible for releasing PGEs into the environment. This systematic review focused on three PGEs with the greatest anthropogenic use, including in vehicle catalytic converters: Platinum (Pt), Palladium (Pd), and Rhodium (Rh).

Oxidative Status, Iron Plasma Levels in Venous Thrombosis Patients.

Exaggerated clot induces venous thrombosis (VTE); oxidative stress (OxS) can to be postulated as additional risk factor. Background: Hypercoagulative conditions play a key role in venous thromboembolism (VTE). Inflammation is currently linked to VTE, but the potential role of circulating microparticles and oxidative stress (OxS) must be elucidated.
