Article Synopsis
  • Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare and aggressive cancer treatment often involving a chemotherapy regimen called EDP-M (etoposide, doxorubicin, cisplatin, and mitotane) for advanced stages.
  • A study analyzed the relationship between CT textural features at diagnosis and treatment response, enrolling 17 patients and using various evaluation criteria.
  • Results indicated that specific textural features, such as long-run high grey level emphasis and histogram kurtosis, could predict treatment response, showing a promising accuracy in differentiating between responders and non-responders.

Article Synopsis
  • * In a study of 149 patients aged 60 and older who underwent liver resection between 2014 and 2018, 24.8% were found to be sarcopenic, which significantly impacted their mortality and overall survival rates post-surgery.
  • * The findings suggest that sarcopenic patients face poorer outcomes, especially if they experience complications and fail to achieve 'Textbook Outcome' (TO), which correlates with better 5-year survival rates compared to non-s

We studied the application of CT texture analysis in adrenal incidentalomas with baseline characteristics of benignity that are highly suggestive of adenoma to find whether there is a correlation between the extracted features and clinical data. Patients with hormonal hypersecretion may require medical attention, even if it does not cause any symptoms. A total of 206 patients affected by adrenal incidentaloma were retrospectively enrolled and divided into non-functioning adrenal adenomas (NFAIs, n = 115) and mild autonomous cortisol secretion (MACS, n = 91).

Introduction: The identification of baseline prognostic factors in Classical Hodgkin Lymphoma could help in tailoring a risk-based approach as the therapeutic landscape expands. Currently, the International Prognostic Score (IPS) represents the most used prediction tool in clinical practice, but other potential baseline risk predictors have been identified.

Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis in a cohort of 274 patients treated with FDG-PET/CT-guided ABVD to assess the prognostic significance of the IPS risk factors, and to validate the impact of the peripheral blood lymphocyte to monocyte (LMR) and neutrophil to lymphocyte (NLR) ratios on prognosis definition.

Cardiac masses include a wide range of lesions whose nature could be both neoplastic (primary and secondary) or not. Here we report the case of a 53-year-old woman referred to our center for pancreatic lesion follow up by magnetic resonance. The collateral finding of a rounded-shaped lesion in the right heart atrium, during the abdomen examination, led to further diagnostic investigation.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the effectiveness and feasibility of rectal-sparing treatments for rectal cancer patients who showed a significant response after neoadjuvant therapy, although there is ongoing debate about their effectiveness.
  • In a multicenter study involving 178 patients, around 80.9% were able to preserve their rectum while showing promising survival rates over three years, including an overall survival rate of 80.6% and a stoma-free survival rate of 95%.
  • The findings suggest that for rectal cancer patients who achieve a major or complete response to neoadjuvant therapy, rectal preservation is possible in most cases without negatively affecting patient outcomes.

Aim: To provide reference values of the dimensions of the left and right atrium (RA) obtained using the biplane and monoplane methods, respectively, on two- and four-chamber views, which represent the standard projections acquired in clinical practice, and correlation with body surface area (BSA), age, and gender.

Materials And Methods: Healthy volunteers, M:F = 1:1, including five participants per gender and age decile from 20 to 70 years, who underwent cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) were enrolled prospectively. Normal atrial reference values were calculated for male and female subpopulations and stratified by age.

Pancreatic transplantation is considered by the American Diabetes Association and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes an acceptable surgical procedure in patients with type 1 diabetes also undergoing kidney transplantation in pre-final or end-stage renal disease if no contraindications are present. Pancreatic transplantation, however, is a complex surgical procedure and may lead to a range of postoperative complications that can significantly impact graft function and patient outcomes. Postoperative computed tomography (CT) is often adopted to evaluate perfusion of the transplanted pancreas, identify complications and as a guide for interventional radiology procedures.

Objectives: In patients with locally advanced rectal carcinoma (LARC), negative nodal status after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) may allow for rectum-sparing protocols rather than total mesorectal excision; however, current MRI criteria for nodal staging have suboptimal accuracy. The aim of this study was to compare the diagnostic accuracy of different MRI dimensional criteria for nodal staging after nCRT in patients with LARC.

Materials And Methods: Patients who underwent MRI after nCRT for LARC followed by surgery were retrospectively included and divided into a training and a validation cohort of 100 and 39 patients, respectively.

Article Synopsis
  • Pancreatic cystic lesions, often discovered incidentally, vary in severity regarding their risk for cancer, with intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN) being particularly concerning as they can range from benign to malignant.
  • The detection and management of IPMN have been enhanced by the use of imaging techniques like CT and MRI, with MRI being the primary tool for diagnosis and ongoing monitoring, especially for branch-duct IPMN, which are the most common and challenging to manage.
  • This review focuses on showcasing the MRI characteristics of IPMN, discussing risk assessment frameworks, and addressing both common and rare imaging changes in branch-duct IPMN, while also debating current management approaches.

ABSTRACTRecurring and rapidly developing (flash) pulmonary edema is the hallmark of Pickering syndrome, affecting patients with hypertension and atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis (either bilateral or unilateral) in a solitary functioning kidney, and impaired renal function. We herein report on a series of consecutive patients with recurrent hospital admissions for pulmonary edema, impaired renal function (chronic kidney disease class 4-5), and atherosclerotic bilateral renal artery stenosis, in whom Pickering syndrome had been long neglected. We also describe a streamlined diagnostic strategy entailing little or no need for contrast medium, thus carrying no risks of further worsening of renal function.

Recently, medical radiology has undergone significant improvements in patient management due to advancements in image acquisition by the last generation of machines, data processing, and the integration of artificial intelligence. In this way, cardiovascular imaging is one of the fastest-growing radiological subspecialties. In this study, a compressive review was focused on addressing how and why CT and MR have gained a I class indication in most cardiovascular diseases, and the potential impact of tissue and functional characterization by CT photon counting, quantitative MR mapping, and 4-D flow.

Biliary complications are the most common complications after liver transplantation. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are cornerstones for timely diagnosis of biliary complications after liver transplantation. The diagnosis of these complications by CT and MRI requires expertise, mainly with respect to identifying subtle early signs to avoid missed or incorrect diagnoses.
