Article Synopsis
  • - The study examined trends in transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) usage in France from 2015 to 2020, focusing on how age and sex influence patient demographics and in-hospital outcomes.
  • - Results showed that TAVR use among patients under 65 years increased significantly (by 63.2%), but it still accounted for only 11.1% of aortic valve replacements in this age group by 2020; TAVR was more commonly used in patients aged 65 and older.
  • - Key findings revealed notable sex differences in demographics and outcomes: females were older, had lower comorbidity scores, were more likely to undergo TAVR, and experienced higher in

Background: Data on the long-term impact of prosthesis-patient mismatch (PPM) on outcomes after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) remain sparse. We therefore aimed to investigate the incidence, predictive factors, and long-term prognostic impact of PPM on bioprosthesis durability and mortality.

Methods: This was a single-centre retrospective study including 2117 patients who underwent TAVR for aortic stenosis from 2002 to 2022.

Aims: Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) as an alternative to surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) has profoundly changed the management of patients with aortic valve stenosis (AS). Large unbiased nationwide data regarding TAVR implementation, impact on SAVR and their respective outcomes are scarce.

Methods And Results: Based on a French administrative hospital-discharge database, we collected data on all consecutive aortic valve replacements (AVRs) performed in France for AS between 2007 and 2019 [106 253 isolated SAVR (49%), 46 514 combined SAVR (21%), and 65 651 TAVR (30%)].

Article Synopsis
  • A medical procedure called TAVI for heart valve replacement has become popular since it started in 2002, and it helps many patients worldwide.
  • At our center, over 2,000 patients had this procedure, mostly with local anesthesia, and we've noticed improvements over the past two decades.
  • The results show that patients are having shorter hospital stays, fewer complications, and very low risk of dying after the surgery, making it a safe option for older patients.

Article Synopsis
  • A study analyzed data from French TAVR registries to compare long-term outcomes in patients using direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) versus vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
  • The research found that patients on DOACs experienced lower mortality and major bleeding rates after three years compared to those on VKAs, although rates of ischemic events were similar between the two groups.
  • The findings suggest that DOACs may be the preferred choice for oral anticoagulation therapy in TAVR patients, promoting better long-term safety and efficacy.

DNA replication is an extremely complex process, involving thousands of replication forks progressing along chromosomes. These forks are frequently slowed down or stopped by various obstacles, such as secondary DNA structures, chromatin-acting proteins or a lack of nucleotides. This slowing down, known as replicative stress, plays a central role in tumour development.

A fluoroscopic view perpendicular to the aortic valve annulus is required during transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) for obtaining an optimal deployment of the bioprosthesis. By predicting c-arm angulation, pre-procedural MDCT could decrease the number of aortograms, shorten the time of the procedure and reduce the amount of intra-arterial contrast agent. The aim of our study was to assess the accuracy of MDCT in predicting c-arm angulation at the cath.

Background: The durability of transcatheter aortic bioprosthetic valves is a crucial issue, but data are scarce, especially beyond 5 years of follow-up. We aimed to assess long-term (7 years) structural valve deterioration (SVD) and bioprosthetic valve failure of transcatheter aortic bioprosthetic valves.

Methods And Results: Consecutive patients with at least 5-year follow-up available undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation from April 2002 to December 2011 in 5 French centers were included.

Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) and Zika virus (ZIKV) are emerging arboviruses that pose a worldwide threat to human health. Currently, neither vaccine nor antiviral treatment to control their infections is available. As the skin is a major viral entry site for arboviruses in the human host, we determined the global proteomic profile of CHIKV and ZIKV infections in human skin fibroblasts using Stable Isotope Labelling by Amino acids in Cell culture (SILAC)-based mass-spectrometry analysis.

The DNA damage sensor XPC is involved in nucleotide excision repair. Here we show that in the absence of damage, XPC co-localizes with RNA polymerase II (Pol II) and active post-translational histone modifications marks on a subset of class II promoters in human fibroblasts. XPC depletion triggers specific gene down-expression due to a drop in the deposition of histone H3K9 acetylation mark and pre-initiation complex formation.

Background: The risk of surgical mitral valve replacement in patients with severe mitral annular calcification (MAC) is high. Several patients worldwide with severe MAC have been treated successfully with transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) using balloon-expandable aortic transcatheter valves. The TMVR in MAC Global Registry is a multicenter registry that collects data on outcomes of these procedures.

SAMHD1 was previously characterized as a dNTPase that protects cells from viral infections. Mutations in SAMHD1 are implicated in cancer development and in a severe congenital inflammatory disease known as Aicardi-Goutières syndrome. The mechanism by which SAMHD1 protects against cancer and chronic inflammation is unknown.
