Pathologists have closely collaborated with clinicians, mainly urologists, to update the Gleason grading system to reflect the current practice and approach in prostate cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment. This has led to the development of what is called patient advocacy and patient information. Ten common questions asked by patients to pathologists concerning PCa grading and the answers given by the latter are reported.

Bladder cancer (BC) is the tenth most commonly diagnosed malignancy worldwide. In approximately 25% of cases, it presents as a muscle-invasive disease, requiring a radical treatment. Traditionally, the mainstay of treatment has been radical cystectomy (RC), but in the last decade, bladder-sparing treatments have been gaining growing interest.

Article Synopsis
  • The systematic review evaluated the status of new robotic systems approved for urological surgery, focusing on their evolution based on the IDEAL framework.
  • It found 74 studies, with 90.5% being noncomparative, while only one randomized trial compared the KangDuo system with the da Vinci system.
  • Results showed that the new robotic platforms had similar outcomes to the da Vinci system, but the review highlighted limitations like small sample sizes and the lack of robust comparative studies.

Background: Previous studies have highlighted patients with chronic conditions seek for medical knowledge and therapeutics on their own. So far, no data exist on the health literacy of patients with gynecological conditions and especially those suffering from endometriosis, whose symptoms' have a major impact on their daily lives.

Method: The objective was to evaluate the health literacy of patients consulting in a referral expert center for the management of endometriosis and gynecological cancers.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the role of PD-L1 expression as a potential biomarker for bladder cancer by analyzing its presence in urine samples from patients undergoing surgical treatment for the disease.
  • - Among 29 patients, PD-L1 expression rates varied significantly across tumor grades, with higher detection in high-grade tumors and good agreement between urine tests (cytoinclusion) and traditional tissue analysis (histopathology).
  • - The research suggests cytoinclusion can serve as a promising, non-invasive method for assessing PD-L1 levels, potentially aiding in the diagnosis and prognosis of bladder cancer, and recommends further standardization for clinical use.

Background: Diverse antidepressants were recently described to bind to TrkB (tyrosine kinase B) and drive a positive allosteric modulation of endogenous BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor). Although neurotrophins such as BDNF can bind to p75NTR (p75 neurotrophin receptor), their precursors are the high-affinity p75NTR ligands. While part of an unrelated receptor family capable of inducing completely opposite physiological changes, TrkB and p75NTR feature a crosslike conformation dimer and carry a cholesterol-recognition amino acid consensus in the transmembrane domain.

Background: Most cardiovascular (CV) events stem from modifiable risk factors, but it remains uncertain whether their impact on mortality has decreased in recent years as a result of treatment, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. We evaluated the temporal trends in the population attributable fraction (PAF) of modifiable risk factors to CV mortality in patients undergoing myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) for suspected coronary artery disease in a large city in Brazil.

Methods: The cohort comprised 25,127 patients without established CV disease undergoing MPI in a referral center in Curitiba, Brazil, from 2010 to 2018.

The ability to represent one's own position in relation to cues, goals, or threats is crucial to successful goal-directed behavior. Using optotagging in knock-in rats expressing Cre recombinase in parvalbumin (PV) neurons (PV-Cre rats), we demonstrate cell-type-specific encoding of spatial and movement variables in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) during goal-directed reward seeking. Single neurons encoded the conjunction of the animal's spatial position and the run direction, referred to as the spatial context.

Bowel endometriosis is the most common form of severe deep endometriosis. Surgery is an option in case of infertility and/or chronic pain or in the presence of a stenotic lesion. Clinical examination and preoperative imaging must provide an identity card of the lesion so that customized surgery can be proposed.

Locus coeruleus (LC) projections to the hippocampus play a critical role in learning and memory. However, the precise timing of LC-hippocampus communication during learning and which LC-derived neurotransmitters are important for memory formation in the hippocampus are currently unknown. Although the LC is typically thought to modulate neural activity via the release of norepinephrine, several recent studies have suggested that it may also release dopamine into the hippocampus and other cortical regions.

The International Society of Urological Pathology and Genitourinary Pathology Society differ in their recommendations for reporting of minor components of high-grade pattern in prostatectomy specimens. This can affect the grade group assigned, particularly when there are only two Gleason patterns in a cancer nodule. We therefore argue that the term "tertiary" should be changed to "minor" component.

Binding events that occur at different times are essential for memory formation. In trace fear conditioning, animals associate a tone and footshock despite no temporal overlap. The hippocampus is thought to mediate this learning by maintaining a memory of the tone until shock occurrence, however, evidence for sustained hippocampal tone representations is lacking.

Introduction: Coarctation of the aorta (CoA) is a narrowing of the thoracic aorta that often manifests as discrete stenosis but may be tortuous or in long segment. The study aimed to evaluate pre and post-surgical aspects of pediatric patients submitted to CoA surgical correction and to identify possible predisposing factors for aortic recoarctation.

Methods: Twenty-five patients were divided into groups according to presence (N=8) or absence (N=17) of recoarctation after surgical correction of CoA and evaluated according to clinical-demographic profile, vascular characteristics via computed angiotomography (CAT), and other pathological conditions.
