Proportion of pregnant women with HBV infection eligible for antiviral prophylaxis to prevent vertical transmission: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background & Aims: In 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended peripartum antiviral prophylaxis (PAP) for pregnant women infected with hepatitis B virus (HBV) with high viremia (≥200,000 IU/ml). Hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) was also recommended as an alternative when HBV DNA is unavailable. To inform policymaking and guide the implementation of prevention of mother-to-child transmission strategies, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to estimate the proportion of HBV-infected pregnant women eligible for PAP at global and regional levels.

Clinical characteristics of ambulatory and hospitalized patients with monkeypox virus infection: an observational cohort study.

Objectives: A global outbreak of monkeypox virus infections in human beings has been described since April 2022. The objectives of this study were to describe the clinical characteristics and complications of patients with a monkeypox infection.

Methods: All consecutive patients with a polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-confirmed monkeypox infection seen in a French referral centre were included.

Factors influencing endothelial cell density of corneas for transplantation.

To evaluate factors affecting corneal endothelial cell density (ECD) under enucleation and preservation time studies at Eye Bank of the Federal District of Brazil. We conducted a case-control study collecting data from 1128 corneas where death-to-enucleation time and enucleation-to-preservation time were within 24 h. Low cell count were those corneas with an ECD less than 2000 cells/mm and high cell count was defined as those with ECD greater than 2000 cells/mm.

We explored the spatial distribution of human Y chromosomal diversity on a microgeographic scale, by typing 30 population samples from closely spaced locations in Italy and Greece for 9 haplogroups and their internal microsatellite variation. We confirm a significant difference in the composition of the Y chromosomal gene pools of the two countries. However, within each country, heterogeneity is not organized along the lines of clinal variation deduced from studies on larger spatial scales.

OBJECTIVE AND DESIGN: the objective of this study performed in adult male rats was to determine the alteration in glycemic, insulin and gonadotrophin luteinizing hormone secretion, and noradrenaline pancreatic concentration caused by fasting (F) and aproteic diet (Ap) during 7 and 21 days respectively, as well as the recovery after 24-hour refeeding with control diet (Co). RESULTS: a significant decrease in glycemic levels was only achieved through fasting (F: 86 +/- 5.1 mg %), when compared with controls (Co: 107 +/- 5 mg %).

Effect of ethanol intake on pancreatic exocrine secretion in mice.

Swiss mice were fed conventional lab chow and 10% ethanol or water as drinking fluid for 2 weeks. Pancreatic juice was obtained by cannulation of the bile pancreatic common duct of mice anesthetized with urethane. Isolated pancreatic lobules were also obtained.

Effects of intravenous ethanol on basal bile-pancreatic secretion in nonalcoholic and alcohol-fed rats.

In nonalcoholic (NA) and alcohol-fed rats (AF), intravenous-ethanol-induced percentage changes in bile-pancreatic-secretion (BPS) were evaluated, with and without gastric juice diversion (GJD) and with and without BPS duodenal recirculation (DR).
