Objective: Existing literature shows associations between patient demographics and reported experiences of care, but this relationship is poorly understood. Our objective was to use natural language processing of patient comments to gain insight into associations between patient demographics and experiences of care.

Methods: This is a cross-sectional study of 14,848 unique emergency department (ED) patient visits from 1/1/2020 to 12/31/2020.

Ego4D: Around the World in 3,000 Hours of Egocentric Video.

We introduce Ego4D, a massive-scale egocentric video dataset and benchmark suite. It offers 3,670 hours of daily-life activity video spanning hundreds of scenarios (household, outdoor, workplace, leisure, etc.) captured by 931 unique camera wearers from 74 worldwide locations and 9 different countries.

High-resolution computed tomography scan dataset of lower Mount Simon Sandstone samples from the Illinois Basin.

This dataset encompasses high-resolution computed tomography scans of small samples of the lower Mount Simon Sandstone from the subsurface of the Illinois Basin. Samples were collected as part of various geological carbon storage characterization efforts and publications focusing on the Mount Simon as a storage reservoir, with scanning performed at the National Energy Technology Laboratory. Thirty-seven three-dimensional (3D) volumes at various resolutions are described and presented as a resource that illustrates the pore and grain size distributions, as well as other petrographic characteristics.

Open-angle glaucoma and Fuchs dystrophy.

A 62-year-old woman with a history of moderate myopia, long-standing open-angle glaucoma (OAG), and Fuchs dystrophy in both eyes was referred for consultative care. She had prior trabeculectomy in 1984 and 1992 in the left and right eyes, respectively. She is 3 months post-Descemet-stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK) in the left eye, now referred with uncontrolled intraocular pressure (IOP) despite maximum tolerated medical therapy.

Social signals predict contemporary art prices better than visual features, particularly in emerging markets.

What determines the price of an artwork? This article leverages a comprehensive and novel dataset on art auctions of contemporary artists to examine the impact of social and visual features on the valuation of artworks across global markets. Our findings indicate that social signals allow us to predict the price of artwork exceptionally well, even approaching the professionals' prediction accuracy, while the visual features play a marginal role. This pattern is especially pronounced in emerging markets, supporting the idea that social signals become more critical when it is more difficult to assess the quality.

Asymmetric Convolution: An Efficient and Generalized Method to Fuse Feature Maps in Multiple Vision Tasks.

Fusing features from different sources is a critical aspect of many computer vision tasks. Existing approaches can be roughly categorized as parameter-free or learnable operations. However, parameter-free modules are limited in their ability to benefit from offline learning, leading to poor performance in some challenging situations.

Complications and outcomes after three-column osteotomy: a 5-year follow-up.

Background: Three-column spinal osteotomies (3-CO) are powerful techniques used to correct spinal deformity. These surgeries are associated with an elevated risk of complications. While outcomes have been reported in the literature with 2 years follow-up, longer-term outcomes of three-column osteotomies remain understudied.

Purpose: To report and evaluate a multicenter series of 18 cases of severe, spontaneous IOL tilt involving the flanged intrascleral haptic fixation technique (FISHF).

Design: Clinical study with historical controls.

Methods: We report a cross-sectional study of 46 FISHF cases using the CT Lucia 602 IOL at a single academic center over a period of 24 weeks to determine the incidence of severe rotisserie-style rotational tilt.

Fracture-matrix fluid exchange in oil-bearing unconventional mudstones.

The poromechanical properties of unconventional reservoir materials are in large part dictated by their mineralogy. Since these properties govern the response to stress experienced during hydraulic fracturing, fluid production, and fluid injection, they play a central role in the formation of microcracks or bedding delaminations which ultimately dominate mass transport. In this work we study access to the porosity of end member unconventional reservoir materials, where the end members are predominantly dictated by carbonate content.

Importance: Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) enhance quality and duration of life in advanced heart failure. The burden of nonsurgical bleeding events is a leading morbidity. Aspirin as an antiplatelet agent is mandated along with vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) with continuous-flow LVADs without conclusive evidence of efficacy and safety.

Predictors of 5-Year Mortality in Patients Managed With a Magnetically Levitated Left Ventricular Assist Device.

Background: In advanced heart failure patients implanted with a fully magnetically levitated HeartMate 3 (HM3, Abbott) left ventricular assist device (LVAD), it is unknown how preimplant factors and postimplant index hospitalization events influence 5-year mortality in those able to be discharged.

Objectives: The goal was to identify risk predictors of mortality through 5 years among HM3 LVAD recipients conditional on discharge from index hospitalization in the MOMENTUM 3 pivotal trial.

Methods: This analysis evaluated 485 of 515 (94%) patients discharged after implantation of the HM3 LVAD.

Ulotaront, a Trace Amine-Associated Receptor 1/Serotonin 5-HT Agonist, in Patients With Parkinson Disease Psychosis: A Pilot Study.

Background And Objectives: Ulotaront (SEP-363856) is a trace amine-associated receptor 1 agonist with 5-HT receptor agonist activity currently in phase 3 clinical development for the treatment of schizophrenia. In this exploratory, flexibly dosed study, ulotaront was evaluated for the treatment of Parkinson disease psychosis (PDP).

Methods: Patients with PDP requiring antipsychotic therapy were randomized, double-blind to ulotaront (25, 50, or 75 mg/d) or placebo.

Association of Angiopoetin-2 and TNF-α With Bleeding During Left Ventricular Assist Device Support: Analysis From the PREVENT Biorepository.

The purpose of this study was to describe the changes in plasma levels of angiogenic and inflammatory biomarkers, specifically Ang-2 and TNF-α, in patients receiving HeartMate II (HMII) left ventricular assist device (LVAD) and correlate them with nonsurgical bleeding. It has been shown that angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2) and tissue necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) may be linked to bleeding in LVAD patients. This study utilized biobanked samples prospectively collected from the PREVENT study, a prospective, multicenter, single-arm, nonrandomized study of patients implanted with HMII.

Enhanced Thrombin Formation in Patients With Ventricular Assist Devices Experiencing Bleeding: Insights From the Multicenter PREVENT Study.

The aim of this investigation was to characterize the hemostatic status of heart failure patients with implanted left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) to propose a mechanism associated with bleeding. Patients (n = 300) from 23 US hospitals were enrolled in the PREVENtion of HeartMate II Pump Thrombosis through Clinical Management (PREVENT) study. A biobank was established with serum and plasma samples prospectively collected from a cohort of 175 patients preimplant baseline (BL) and 3 months (3M) postimplant.

An 85-year-old man with a history of type 2 diabetes, pseudoexfoliation (PXF) in both eyes, and tamsulosin use was referred for the evaluation of a dense cataract in the right eye and a subluxated intraocular lens (IOL) in the left eye. Unfortunately, his surgery in the left eye was complicated by diffuse zonulopathy. The referring surgeon placed a 3-piece IOL in the sulcus.

The integrity of wellbore cement is vital for the long-term success of applications such as enhanced oil recovery and carbon storage. Intact cemented well casings are crucial to preventing leakage and fluid migration, as well as maintaining safety of operations. To investigate the changes to fractures in foamed wellbore cement in a carbon storage scenario, four cores were fractured lengthwise and injected with deionized water at equilibrium with CO.

A Survey on Deep Learning Technique for Video Segmentation.

Video segmentation-partitioning video frames into multiple segments or objects-plays a critical role in a broad range of practical applications, from enhancing visual effects in movie, to understanding scenes in autonomous driving, to creating virtual background in video conferencing. Recently, with the renaissance of connectionism in computer vision, there has been an influx of deep learning based approaches for video segmentation that have delivered compelling performance. In this survey, we comprehensively review two basic lines of research - generic object segmentation (of unknown categories) in videos, and video semantic segmentation - by introducing their respective task settings, background concepts, perceived need, development history, and main challenges.

Incidence and clinical correlates of de-novo aortic regurgitation with a fully magnetically levitated left ventricular assist device: a MOMENTUM 3 trial portfolio analysis.

Aims: We assessed the incidence, predictors and clinical correlates of de-novo aortic regurgitation (AR), which physiologically reduces left ventricular assist device (LVAD) effectiveness due to recirculation syndrome, in the MOMENTUM 3 trial portfolio of the fully magnetically levitated HeartMate 3 (HM3) pump using the randomized pivotal trial (PT) and post-trial continued access protocol (CAP).

Methods And Results: De-novo aortic regurgitation incidence at 2 years was analysed in the randomized PT and validated in the first 1000 implanted patients of the CAP. Patients with concomitant/prior aortic valve surgery or without baseline or post-implant echocardiograms were excluded from this analysis.

Proximal junctional failure after surgical instrumentation in adult spinal deformity: biomechanical assessment of proximal instrumentation stiffness.

Study Design: Assessment of different proximal instrumentation stiffness features to minimize the mechanical proximal junctional failure-related risks through computer-based biomechanical models.

Objective: To biomechanically assess variations of proximal instrumentation and loads acting on the spine and construct to minimize proximal junctional failure (PJF) risks. The use of less-stiff fixation such as hooks or tensioned bands, compared to pedicle screws, at the proximal instrumentation level are considered to allow for a gradual transition in stiffness with the adjacent levels, but the impact of such flexible fixation on the loads balance and complications such as PJF remain uncertain.

Reinforcing Generated Images via Meta-Learning for One-Shot Fine-Grained Visual Recognition.

One-shot fine-grained visual recognition often suffers from the problem of having few training examples for new fine-grained classes. To alleviate this problem, off-the-shelf image generation techniques based on Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) can potentially create additional training images. However, these GAN-generated images are often not helpful for actually improving the accuracy of one-shot fine-grained recognition.

DoTA: Unsupervised Detection of Traffic Anomaly in Driving Videos.

Video anomaly detection (VAD) has been extensively studied for static cameras but is much more challenging in egocentric driving videos where the scenes are extremely dynamic. This paper proposes an unsupervised method for traffic VAD based on future object localization. The idea is to predict future locations of traffic participants over a short horizon, and then monitor the accuracy and consistency of these predictions as evidence of an anomaly.
