While phenotypically indistinguishable with respect to callousness, individuals with primary and secondary callous-unemotional (CU) traits may show different developmental outcomes. This research predominantly comprised cross-sectional studies of male participants with a focus on maladaptive correlates. Thus, the present study examined whether youth with primary and secondary CU traits identified in Grade 7 reported distinct maladaptive outcomes (internalizing, externalizing, and substance use problems; criminal offenses; and sexual and partner experiences) and adaptive outcomes (health and wellbeing, education, and employment) in adulthood at age 25.

Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) damages the dermis and fibroblasts; and increases melanoma incidence. Fibroblasts and their matrix contribute to cancer, so we studied how UVR modifies dermal fibroblast function, the extracellular matrix (ECM) and melanoma invasion. We confirmed UVR-damaged fibroblasts persistently upregulate collagen-cleaving matrix metalloprotein-1 (MMP1) expression, reducing local collagen (COL1A1), and COL1A1 degradation by MMP1 decreased melanoma invasion.

Background: Neurotensin receptor activation augments the biosctivity of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). JMV-449, a C-terminal neurotensin-like fragment with a reduced peptide bond, represents a neurotensin receptor agonist.

Methods: The present study assessed the actions of JMV-449 on pancreatic beta-cells alone, and in combination with GIP and GLP-1.

Identifying robust predictive biomarkers to stratify colorectal cancer (CRC) patients based on their response to immune-checkpoint therapy is an area of unmet clinical need. Our evolutionary algorithm Atlas Correlation Explorer (ACE) represents a novel approach for mining The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data for clinically relevant associations. We deployed ACE to identify candidate predictive biomarkers of response to immune-checkpoint therapy in CRC.

People with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expression are at greater risk for trauma, discrimination, and victimization than heterosexual and cisgender populations. Trauma-informed care (TIC) provides a framework for providing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning (LGBTQ +) mental health services. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)'s principles of TIC guide practitioners to create safety, trust, transparency, collaboration, and empowerment in helping relationships, and to ensure that services have cultural and gender relevance.

We employed aqueous solutions of highly-hydrolyzed (>99+%) poly(vinyl alcohol), PVA, to coat plastic dishes as a method to efficiently induce three-dimensional (3D) culturing of cells. The coatings were prepared by simple evaporation of 3 wt/vol% solutions of PVA in water and require no additional processing steps after air drying under sterile conditions. The coating allows spheroids to form in solution.

Prices negotiated between payers and providers affect a health insurance contract's value via enrollees' cost-sharing and self-insured employers' costs. However, price variation across payers is difficult to observe. We measure negotiated prices for hospital-payer pairs in Massachusetts and characterize price variation.

Purpose: Cancer susceptibility and mortality are higher in males, and the mutational and transcriptomic landscape of cancer differs by sex. The current assumption is that men are at higher risk of epithelial cancers as they expose more to carcinogens and accumulate more damage than women. We present data showing women present with less aggressive primary cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) and early strong immune activation.

Polymer networks are complex systems consisting of molecular components. Whereas the properties of the individual components are typically well understood by most chemists, translating that chemical insight into polymer networks themselves is limited by the statistical and poorly defined nature of network structures. As a result, it is challenging, if not currently impossible, to extrapolate from the molecular behavior of components to the full range of performance and properties of the entire polymer network.

Mechanochemical reactions that lead to an increase in polymer contour length have the potential to serve as covalent synthetic mimics of the mechanical unfolding of noncovalent "stored length" domains in structural proteins. Here we report the force-dependent kinetics of stored length release in a family of covalent domain polymers based on -1,2-substituted cyclobutane mechanophores. The stored length is determined by the size () of a fused ring in an [.

Best practices dictate that biobanks ensure accurate determination of tumor content before supplying formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue samples to researchers for nucleic acid extraction and downstream molecular testing. It is advisable that trained and competent individuals, who understand the requirements of the downstream molecular tests, perform the microscopic morphological examination. However, the special skills, time, and costs associated with these assessments can be prohibitive, especially in large case cohorts requiring extensive pathological review.

The fracture of rubbery polymer networks involves a series of molecular events, beginning with conformational changes along the polymer backbone and culminating with a chain scission reaction. Here, we report covalent polymer gels in which the macroscopic fracture "reaction" is controlled by mechanophores embedded within mechanically active network strands. We synthesized poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) gels through the end-linking of azide-terminated tetra-arm PEG ( = 5 kDa) with bis-alkyne linkers.

Polymers are stochastic materials that represent distributions of different molecules. In general, to quantify the distribution, polymer researchers rely on a series of chemical characterizations that each reveal partial information on the distribution. However, in practice, the exact set of characterizations that are carried out, as well as how the characterization data are aggregated and reported, is largely nonstandard across the polymer community.

Background: We developed a fluorophore-conjugated peptide agent, SBK4, that detects a tumor-specific proteolyzed form of the cell adhesion molecule, PTPmu, found in the tumor microenvironment. We previously demonstrated its tissue specific distribution in high-grade brain tumors. To extend those studies to other aggressive solid tumor types, we assessed the tissue distribution of PTPmu/SBK4 in a set of matched gynecologic cancer patient derived xenografts (PDXs) and primary patient tumors, as well as a limited cohort of tumors from gynecological cancer patients.
