Fibrosis is one of the key healing responses to injury, especially within the heart where it helps to maintain structural integrity following acute insults such as myocardial infarction. However, if it becomes dysregulated then fibrosis can become maladaptive leading to adverse remodelling, impaired cardiac function and heart failure. Fibroblast activation protein is exclusively expressed by activated fibroblasts, the key effector cells of fibrogenesis, and has a unique extracellular domain that is an ideal ligand for novel molecular imaging probes.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to conduct a study-level meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the effect of early aortic valve replacement (AVR) compared with CS in patients with asymptomatic severe AS.
Methods: Studies were quantitatively assessed in a meta-analysis using random-effects modeling.
Background: Oxidized phospholipids (OxPLs) are carried by apolipoprotein B-100-containing lipoproteins (OxPL-apoB) including lipoprotein(a) (Lp[a]). Both OxPL-apoB and Lp(a) have been associated with calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD).
Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the associations between OxPL-apoB, Lp(a) and the prevalence, incidence, and progression of CAVD.
Coral bleaching, a consequence of stressed symbiotic relationships between corals and algae, has escalated due to intensified heat stress events driven by climate change. Despite global efforts, current early warning systems lack local precision. Our study, spanning 2015-2017 in the Mesoamerican Reef, revealed prevalent intermediate bleaching, peaking in 2017.

We aimed to establish the observer repeatability of coronary, carotid and cerebral F-GP1 uptake in patients presenting with acute myocardial infarction or ischaemic stroke. Forty-three patients presenting with acute myocardial infarction or ischaemic stroke underwent hybrid positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT) angiography.

Objective: To investigate whether early valve intervention reduced the incidence of all-cause death or unplanned aortic stenosis-related hospitalization in asymptomatic patients with severe aortic stenosis and myocardial fibrosis.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This prospective, randomized, open-label, masked end point trial was conducted between August 2017 and October 2022 at 24 cardiac centers across the UK and Australia.
Objective: This study investigated the effects of recombinant equine IL-31 (eIL-31) in vivo and in vitro.
Methods: Equine IL-31 mRNA sequences were verified by sequencing. Recombinant eIL-31 was produced using mammalian and bacterial expression systems.

Environmental plastic fragments have been verified as byproducts of large plastic and its secondary pollutants including micro and nanoplastics. There are few quantitative studies available, but their contours have values for the weathering mechanisms. We used geometric descriptors, fractal dimensions, and Fourier descriptors to characterize field and artificial polyethylene and polypropylene samples as a means of investigating the contour characteristics.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the aortic valve fibrocalcific volume by computed tomography (CT) angiography in patients with AS, in particular, to assess its reproducibility, association with histology and disease severity, and ability to predict/track progression.
Background: Total coronary atherosclerotic plaque activity across the entire coronary arterial tree is associated with patient-level clinical outcomes.
Objectives: We aimed to investigate whether vessel-level coronary atherosclerotic plaque activity is associated with vessel-level myocardial infarction.
Methods: In this secondary analysis of an international multicenter study of patients with recent myocardial infarction and multivessel coronary artery disease, we assessed vessel-level coronary atherosclerotic plaque activity using coronary F-sodium fluoride positron emission tomography to identify vessel-level myocardial infarction.
The Chinese sturgeon (Acipenser sinensis) is an endangered freshwater mega-fish (IUCN-red listed) that survives in the Yangtze River Basin, but the population of which has declined significantly in response to environmental pressures generated by human activities. In order to evaluate the interaction between Chinese sturgeon and microplastics (MPs) for the first time, we examined the gut and gills of historical samples (n = 27), in conjunction with the blood and mucus of live samples (n = 10), to explore the potential pathways involved in MP uptake. We detected MPs in 62.

However, MPA impact evaluations typically assess total fish biomass. Here, we examine how fish biomass disaggregated by adult and juvenile life stages responds to environmental drivers, including sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies and human footprint, and multiple management types at 139 reef sites in the Mesoamerican Reef (MAR) region.

Typhoon frequency and intensity have increased due to climate change, which has a major effect on the distribution patterns of microplastics. It is still unknown, though, how the topography of the peninsula affects the reconstruction of the distribution of microplastic in typhoons.

The incorporation of spacetime and field derivative coordinates solves complications due to higher-order derivatives faced by existing approaches to field space geometry. We identify a jet bundle analog to the field space metric that, besides field redefinitions, exhibits invariance under total derivatives.

Objective: Identify the effects of political, economic and social exposures, interventions and policies on inclusive economy (IE) outcomes in high-income countries, by systematically reviewing the review-level evidence.
This study presents an in-depth analysis of heterogeneous aging patterns in membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) subjected to diverse accelerated stress test (AST) conditions, simulating carbon corrosion (CC AST) and Pt particle size growth in fully humidified (Pt AST-Wet) and underhumidified (Pt AST-Dry) H/N atmospheres. Multimodal characterization techniques are used to focus on heterogeneous aging patterns, primarily examining the variations in current distributions and Pt particle size maps. The findings reveal distinct characteristics of current distributions for all the AST cases, with substantial changes and strong current gradients in the CC AST case, indicative of severe performance degradation.
