Pediatric Organ Donation Potential at a Children's Hospital.

Objectives: To estimate the organ donation potential of patients dying at a children's hospital.

Design: Retrospective cohort study.

Setting: A free-standing, 271-bed, tertiary Children's Hospital with a pediatric trauma center.

Non-invasive imaging techniques are highly desirable as an alternative to conventional biopsy for the characterization of the remodeling of tissues associated with disease progression, including end-stage heart failure. Cardiac diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) has become an established method for the characterization of myocardial microstructure. However, the relationships between diffuse myocardial fibrosis, which is a key biomarker for staging and treatment planning of the failing heart, and measured DTI parameters have yet to be investigated systematically.

Background And Objectives: There is increasing unmet need for solid organ donation. Alternative donor sources, such as donation after circulatory determination of death (DCDD), are needed. The objective of this study was to examine the impact of DCDD on trends in pediatric organ donation and transplantation.

Impact of high-dose inotropic donor support on early myocardial necrosis and outcomes in cardiac transplantation.

Background: Cardiac donors routinely require vasoactive agents for circulatory stability after brain death. Nevertheless, inotropes have been associated with direct cardiac toxicity. Our study evaluated whether the use of high-dose inotropic support in potential donors was associated with increased early myocardial necrosis (MN) and worse clinical outcomes after cardiac transplantation.

Effects of the 2006 U.S. thoracic organ allocation change: analysis of local impact on organ procurement and heart transplantation.

Background: The United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) implemented a thoracic organ allocation policy change (APC) in July 2006 that aimed to reduce death on the waiting list by expanding regional organ sharing. As such, organs would be allocated to the sickest recipients with highest listing status across the region. Our aim was to determine the impact of the new policy on the procurement and transplant process within our program.
