The vascularized fibular graft in precollapse osteonecrosis: is long-term hip preservation possible?

Background: Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a debilitating condition affecting primarily young patients. Free vascularized fibular grafting (FVFG) may provide a durable means to preserve the femoral head. When used in the precollapse stages of ONFH, this treatment may alter the course of disease.

Total scapholunate dislocation with complete scaphoid extrusion: case report.

A case of complete dislocation of the lunate and scaphoid resulting from a fall is reported. We are unaware of any previously reported case of simultaneous dislocation with the scaphoid completely extruded from the wrist at the time of injury. The patient was treated with a proximal row carpectomy.

Radial head fractures: loss of cortical contact is associated with concomitant fracture or dislocation.

Hypothesis: Among radial head fractures displaced greater than 2 mm (Broberg and Morrey modified Mason type 2), separation (complete loss of cortical contact) of at least 1 radial head fracture fragment is associated with a complex injury pattern, meaning that there are other concomitant elbow fractures or ligament injuries.

Materials And Methods: We identified 291 consecutive skeletally mature patients with 296 radial head fractures treated during a 6-year period. Of these, 121 consecutive fractures of part of the radial head displaced greater than 2 mm (type 2) were classified according to whether there was complete lack of cortical contact between a fracture fragment and the rest of the proximal radius.

Elbow tendinopathy and tendon ruptures: epicondylitis, biceps and triceps ruptures.

Lateral and medial epicondylitis are common causes of elbow pain in the general population, with the lateral variety being more common than the medial by a ratio reportedly ranging from 4:1 to 7:1. Initially thought to be an inflammatory condition, epicondylitis has ultimately been shown to result from tendinous microtearing followed by an incomplete reparative response. Numerous nonoperative and operative treatment options have been employed in the treatment of epicondylitis, without the emergence of a single, consistent, universally accepted treatment protocol.
