We examined the comparative effectiveness of the Dove Evolution commercial and disclaimer labels as media literacy interventions. Women ( N = 287) viewed thin-ideal images by themselves, preceded by the Dove Evolution commercial, or containing specific or generic disclaimer labels. Participants completed pre- and post-test measures of body satisfaction, post-test social comparison, and media literacy.

Clinical assessment led to suspicion of possible endocarditis. Initial interpretation of transesophageal echocardiogram was inconclusive without vegetation in mitral/aortic valve.

A total of 116 males completed pre- and post-test measures of body satisfaction, mood, and social comparison and viewed 5 minutes of clips containing scenery, muscular- or average-looking singers. Negative effects were restricted to young men who viewed the muscular clips.

Therefore, we investigated relationships among ulvophycean orders by determining the distribution of two discrete genetic characters previously identified only in the order Dasycladales. First, Acetabularia acetabulum uses the core translation GTPase Elongation Factor 1alpha (EF-1alpha) while most Chlorophyta instead possess the related GTPase Elongation Factor-Like (EFL).

Subjects And Methods: Modified panel process based upon the RAND/UCLA (University College of Los Angeles) appropriateness method. Three multiprofessional panels made up of general practitioners, hospital specialists, and practice nurses.
Objective: To compare the outcome of out of hours care given by general practitioners from patients' own practices and by commercial deputising services.
Design: Randomised controlled trial.
Setting: Four urban areas in Manchester, Salford, Stockport, and Leicester.

Despite the advancements in reperfusion therapy, elderly patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) continue to have higher mortality and complication rates than younger patients. To evaluate this group we reviewed 994 consecutive patients with AMI at our hospital during a 24-month period. There were 307 patients aged > 75 years and 687 younger patients.

Design: Data collected by telephonists and doctors. Satisfaction questionnaires given to patients who attended.
Objective: To determine the use and organisation of out of hours services in primary care.
Design: Telephone survey.
Setting: Family health services authorities in England and Wales.
Objectives: This study was designed to prospectively evaluate the routine use of continuous heparin therapy after successful uncomplicated coronary angioplasty.
Background: The use of such therapy varies among institutions and may increase the incidence of complications. Evaluation of the risks and benefits of abbreviated heparin therapy combined with early sheath removal after coronary angioplasty is necessary to determine optimal postprocedure care.
Multiple lifesaving options are currently available for treatment of acute myocardial infarction as a medical emergency. Serial electrocardiography and continuous ST-segment monitoring, urgent echocardiography, rapid enzyme analysis, and cardiac catheterization may all assist in the accurate and early diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction. Both intravenous thrombolytic therapy and direct infarct percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty are of benefit in early treatment.

Design: Retrospective chart review.
Setting: A large community-based hospital.

During the 23 years since the original work of Holmes & Rahe, research into stressful life events on human subjects has tended towards the development of longer and more complex inventories. The List of Threatening Experiences (LTE) of Brugha et al., by virtue of its brevity, overcomes difficulties of clinical application.

A telemetry observation unit was established to monitor patients having uncomplicated procedures. A total of 170 lesions were dilated, with a procedural success rate of 96% and a clinical success rate of 91%.

Propadienone, an isomer of propynal with the formula H2C=C=C=O, was not detected and is hence less abundant than either C3O or HC2CHO.

Nonhuman primates with chronic systemic hypertension provide an ideal model for studying structural and functional alterations associated with compensatory cardiac hypertrophy. Since noninvasive techniques are useful for the longitudinal evaluation of these animals, we sought to critically asses the M-mode echocardiographic estimation of left ventricular mass in the baboon and to characterize estimates of left ventricular size and function in baboons with chronic renal hypertension. In 23 baboons (12 normotensive, 11 chronic hypertensive), M-mode echocardiography-determined left ventricular mass was 73 +/- 13 (SE) g as compared with the necropsy weight of 69 +/- 11 g (p = NS), and the correlation was excellent (r = 0.

The observed peak antenna temperatures, appropriately corrected for atmospheric and telescope losses, are found to be consistent with a large velocity gradient radiative transfer model whose parameters span the range of standard values for this cloud. The derived fractional abundance for C3O is 1.

Bisoprolol is a new beta-adrenoceptor antagonist which has shown beta-adrenoceptor selectivity in studies in isolated tissues. Bronchial and cardiac beta-adrenoceptor blockade were assessed in eight normal subjects before and after oral ingestion of placebo, bisoprolol 20 and 40 mg, metoprolol 200 mg and propranolol 80 mg in random order. Bronchial beta-adrenoceptor blockade was assessed as the displacement of the bronchodilator dose-response curve to inhaled isoprenaline after each beta-adrenoceptor blocking drug compared to placebo and expressed as the dose ratio.
