Purpose: Infants undergoing CSF shunting procedures face a rare complication which we propose to rename "Widespread Haemorrhages in Infants Post-Shunting" (WHIPS) to better capture this unique phenomenon specific to infants undergoing CSF diversion. Our objective is to analyse the risk factors for WHIPS development and provide a detailed neuroradiological description of these haemorrhages.
Materials And Methods: A radiology information system (RIS) was searched using the search terms "shunt" and/or "catheter" and/or "drain" and/or "ventriculoperitoneal" and/or "VP" between September 2008 to January 2021 for patients < 12 months of age.

DNA amplification occurred in a cylindrical, self-standing 9 × 9 array of gel posts each less than 1 μL in volume. Pressure-driven backflow (opposing electroosmotic flow (EOF)) has been observed and characterized, and meniscus surface tension (Laplace pressure) is cited as the likely cause. However, there are a number of interdependent factors that affect bulk flow in a microchip environment, including evaporation, buffer depletion due to hydrolysis, EOF pumping, siphoning, viscosity changes due to Joule heating, and Laplace pressure.

In the past year, microchips as applied to miniaturised total analysis systems, or microTAS, have benefited from technological improvements in their fabrication and been applied to analysis in many different biological areas. From a technological perspective, salient work includes fast, cheap and easy micromachining in polymers and integrated optical detection. From the bioapplications perspective, advances in DNA and protein separations, cell manipulations, immunoassays and polymerase chain reaction using on-chip electrophoretic separation stand out.

Measurements of RI, calculated by dividing the difference between the peak systolic velocity and the end-diastolic velocity by the peak systolic velocity, were attempted in 55 pediatric patients during evaluations for ventriculoperitoneal shunt malfunctions; values were obtained in 52. Indications of shunt malfunction included both clinical and radiographic evidence of increased intracranial pressure.

When bone marrow from mice depleted of haemoglobin containing cells, was cultured in vitro in the presence of human urinary erythropoietin (Ep) a significant degree of erythroid cell proliferation and maturation occurred as measured directly by 3H-thymidine (3H-TdR) incorporation into DNA (autoradiographical measurement). Proliferation increased in direct proportion to the dose of Ep added to the culture.
