Comparison between near-infrared fluorescence imaging with indocyanine green and infrared imaging: on-bench trial for kidney perfusion analysis. A project of the ESUT-YAUWP group.

Background: Infrared thermography (IRT) imaging technology is able to measure surface temperatures in real-time. The aim of our study is to understand whether IRT imaging is a reliable technology for the assessment of kidney-parenchyma perfusion with warm fluids.

Methods: We used three porcine kidneys as a sample.

Construct, content and face validity of the camera handling trainer (CHT): a new E-BLUS training task for 30° laparoscope navigation skills.

Purpose: Assessing construct, face and content validity of the camera handling trainer (CHT), a novel low-fidelity training device for 30° laparoscope navigation skills.

Methods: We developed a custom-designed box trainer with clinically based graphic targets. A total of 117 participants, stratified according to their previous experience (novice, competent, expert), took part to a CHT session and subsequently were asked to fill out a survey to assess the impact of the CHT on their 30° laparoscope navigation skills.

Salivary and lacrimal secretion is reduced in patients with ESRD.

Background: A reduction in salivary and lacrimal secretion has been described in several diseases. However, such alterations have not been investigated fully in patients with chronic renal failure. The aim of the present study is to estimate the frequency of alterations in salivary and lacrimal secretion in long-term hemodialysis patients.

[Xerostomia and Xerophthalmia in haemodialysis patients].

This study was designed to estimate the frequency of alterations in salivary and lachrymal secretion in haemodialysed patients. The value of ultrasound as a screening procedure for urological disorders in renal failure.

Renal ultrasound was evaluated as a screening procedure for urological conditions (hydronephrosis or space-occupying lesions) in 175 patients (316 kidneys) with renal failure. The final diagnosis of renal disease was based on excretory urography, ascending or translumbar pyelography, open surgical findings, clinical and laboratory test results or renal biopsies. Ultrasonic images suggestive of renal disease requiring surgery were obtained in 83 kidneys and subsequently confirmed in 67.
