Anal incontinence is a frequent pathological condition with devastating impact on quality of life. The prevalence is approximately 15% of the population, with higher incidence reported in the elderly and multiparous women, and several factors have a major role in its pathogenesis, such as anatomical sphincter defects (Glasgow and Lowry in Dis Colon Rectum 55(4): 482-490, 2012), delivery injuries, and colorectal, uro-gynecological, and perineal surgery. The direct surgical approach is the gold standard treatment for fecal incontinence, especially through anterior sphincteroplasty, although a permanent defect of continence persists over time.

Background: Schwannomas, also called neurinomas, are rare benign tumors of the neural cells that can develop from the sheaths of nervous structures of several districts, although the most frequent sites are the cranial nerves (25%-45%). Rarely, cases show neck schwannomas in the thyroid parenchyma, while the cases of thyroid-bed schwannomas mimicking a thyroid-gland lesions are anecdotal.

Methods: We report the case of a 70-year-old man with a preoperative-imaging diagnosis of a thyroid neoplasm, confirmed as Thyr 4 by fine-needle cytology.

Introduction: Lipohypertrophies (LHs) due to incorrect insulin injection techniques have been described in the literature for decades. Their rate averages 38%, but this is still controversial because of the vast range reported by different publications, most of which fail to describe the selected detection protocol and therefore are not entirely reliable. We still need to identify the real LH rate, and only consistently using a standardized method in a large cohort of insulin-treated (IT) patients make this possible.

Healthcare domain is characterized by a huge amount of data, contained in medical records, reports, test results and so on. In order to give support to healthcare workers and manage relevant data in effective and efficient way, it is important to correctly classify the unstructured parts of text, embedded in the medical documents. In this paper, we propose a classification system for medical records categorization, focused on the combination of different methodologies, based on lexical, syntactical and semantic analysis of the documents.

Dimensional accuracy of an epoxy die material using different polymerization methods.

Purpose: Shrinkage of resinous die materials during setting reaction limits their acceptance, even though these materials show several advantages compared to stone die materials with respect to strength, abrasion resistance, and detail reproduction. The purpose of this study was to determine if retarding the setting reaction during polymerization and altering the base-to-catalyst ratio, as suggested by previous studies, can be recommended for resinous die materials to reduce the inaccuracy in transferring the spatial position of teeth or implants from the oral cavity to the master cast.

Symptoms, radiological and endoscopical findings suggested Crohn's disease in a man, who had worked as ceramist and in whom silicosis was diagnosed four years earlier. The authors, after presenting the clinical and diagnostic features of the patient, discuss the similarity of some pathogenetic features of the two diseases.

Gallbladder lumina were occupied by non-shadowing, firm masses of mixed echogenicity representing blood clots. In both cases iatrogenic trauma following percutaneous transcholecystic cholangiography and blind hepatic biopsy caused bleeding in the biliary tree.

Gastric lymphoma: diagnosis and follow-up of chemotherapy-induced changes using real-time ultrasonography: a report of three cases.

Three cases of secondary gastric lymphoma are presented in which diagnosis was suggested by ultrasound (US) and confirmed by endoscopy and microscopical examination. Three different US patterns are illustrated and compared with endoscopy. US findings paralleled endoscopy during follow-up under antiblastic treatment: both improvement and lack of change in the gastric lesions were reliably predicted by US.
