Seminal prolactin and its relationship to sperm motility in men.

Semen assessment and levels of serum and seminal plasma prolactin (PRL) were determined in 81 men. In subjects with both normal sperm concentrations and normal sperm motility, the levels of serum and seminal plasma PRL were 14.7 +/- 1.

Blood serotonin levels and male infertility.

Seventy men, aged 20-40 years, who were attending an infertility clinic were studied to evaluate associations between seminal quality, whole blood serotonin, and serum testosterone levels. Men with blood serotonin levels greater than 100 ng/ml showed lower sperm counts and sperm motility than those with normal levels of blood serotonin (less than 90 ng/ml). Seminal volume, pH, sperm morphology, fructose, citric acid, and serum testosterone values were similar between groups of patients with different levels of blood serotonin.

Pubertal gynecomastia and transient elevation of serum estradiol level.

Serum levels of testosterone, estradiol, progesterone, 17alpha-hydroxyprogesterone, follicle-stimulating hormone, and luteinizing hormone were measured in 16 boys with pubertal gynecomastia. Six patients had elevated serum estradiol concentrations, and four of these six also had elevated progesterone levels. Serum estradiol/testosterone ratios were high for the stage of puberty in 11 of the 16 patients.
