Objectives: The aim of the present study was to investigate if there are differences in mitigation acute pain following oral surgery procedures within a hospital setting and regarding various medication regimens.

Materials And Methods: A systematic literature search was performed between the years 2013 and 2023, including the databases PUBMED, Cochrane and Scopus, to identify the clinical trials investigating the prescription of non-steroidal (NSAID's) anti-inflammatory drugs before or after an oral surgery. A meta-analysis with meta-regression model was employed on the primary and secondary outcomes, such as pain, swelling and trismus.

Motor development trajectories of children with cerebral palsy in a community-based early intervention program in rural South India.

Background: Developmental trajectories are crucial for evidence-based prognostication, planning interventions, and monitoring progress in children with cerebral palsy (CP).

Aims: To describe gross motor development patterns of children with CP in rural South India for the five Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) levels.

Methods: Longitudinal cohort study of 302 children (176 males, 126 females) with CP aged 0 to 10 years, followed by a community-based early intervention program.

In this paper we examine several definitions of vaccine efficacy (VE) that we found in the literature, for diseases that express themselves in outbreaks, that is, when the force of infection grows in time, reaches a maximum and then vanishes. The fact that the disease occurs in outbreaks results in several problems that we analyse. We propose a mathematical model that allows the calculation of VE for several scenarios.

Exploring rehabilitation providers' perspectives of assistive technology access after the implementation of a paediatric AT provision program in rural South India.

A paediatric Assistive Technology (AT) Provision Program was implemented by a non-governmental rehabilitation facility in rural South India to support rehabilitation providers in providing needed AT access for children with disabilities. Capacity-building measures for providers and other supports based on the AT needs, barriers, and facilitators to AT access were implemented that aligned with the AT global report for low-middle income countries (LMIC). This study explores how the initiatives from the AT Provision Program have influenced the perspectives of rehabilitation providers on AT access.

As the prevalence of drug-resistant Candida isolates continues to rise, the imperative for identifying novel compounds to enhance the arsenal of antifungal drugs becomes increasingly critical. Consequently, exploring new treatment strategies, including synthesizing molecular hybrids and applying combination therapy, is essential. For this reason, this study evaluated the efficacy of ten molecular hybrids of aza-bicyclic 2-isoxazoline-acylhydrazone belonging to two series 90 and 91 as possible anti-Candida agents.

Social capital of families of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities in South India.

Aim: To investigate the social capital of families with children with neurodevelopmental disabilities in South India receiving a community-based early intervention (Enabling Inclusion®) program and to explore determinants and associations between social capital and program duration, socio-demographic factors, family empowerment, and caregiver burden.

Method: Using purposive sampling in a cross-sectional study design, 217 families (n = 71 received short Enabling Inclusion [<5 months]; n = 146 received long Enabling Inclusion [>9 months]) were recruited and completed the Short Adapted Social Capital Tool (SASCAT: cognitive, structural), measures of family empowerment, and caregiver strain. Descriptive statistics, regression, and correlations were used for analyses.

Genomic and transcriptomic characterization of methylmercury detoxification in a deep ocean Alteromonas mediterranea ISS312.

Methylmercury (MeHg) is one of the most worrisome pollutants in marine systems. MeHg detoxification is mediated by merB and merA genes, responsible for the demethylation of MeHg and the reduction of inorganic mercury, respectively. Little is known about the biological capacity to detoxify this compound in marine environments, and even less the bacterial transcriptional changes during MeHg detoxification.

Methods: This retrospective study identified and randomly selected adults diagnosed between 2010 and 2018 from the ConcertAI Oncology Dataset. For patients initially treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT), we estimated real-world progression-free survival (rwPFS) among those with persistent disease, real-world time on CCRT, and recurrence-free survival (rwRFS) using Kaplan-Meier methods.

Objectives And Methods: In this prospective study, we aimed to delineate the characteristics of older patients presenting for their initial oncology appointment by using geriatric screening (G8 score) and comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA), while also assessing the feasibility of these evaluations. Secondary objectives included comparing the initial Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status and any deviations from standard therapeutic strategies against the identified frailty in geriatric assessment.

When Addressing Trauma Makes a Difference: A Case Report of Undiagnosed Complex Post-traumatic Stress Disorder.

Complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD) is an emergent diagnosis, which acknowledges the impact of prolonged interpersonal abuse on affect regulation, interpersonal functioning, and self-concept. We present the case of a 59-year-old woman who remained undiagnosed and untreated for this condition for three decades while under follow-up in mental health services for the diagnosis of personality disorder and bipolar disorder. The patient suffered repeated sexual abuse in her childhood, resulting in intrusive traumatic memories she emotionally and cognitively avoided, dissociative amnesia, a persistent inability to experience positive emotions, a persistent sense of guilt, re-experiencing phenomena, and hypervigilance toward others and their intentions to harm her.

Nevertheless, there are still knowledge gaps regarding their diversity patterns throughout depth gradients ranging from the surface to the deep ocean.

Methadone Withdrawal-Related Psychosis in a Patient With Hormone-Dependent Breast Cancer: A Case Report.

Methadone withdrawal usually presents as a classical opiate withdrawal syndrome, including symptoms such as restlessness, pupillary dilation, sweating, insomnia, irritability, sneezing, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. It rarely manifests as psychosis. Here, we discuss the case of a 43-year-old female with a history of long-term methadone use who presented with first-episode psychosis during methadone down-titration.

Leveraging monitoring, evaluation, and learning to scale the Enabling Inclusion program for children with disabilities in India and globally.

Introduction: Children with disabilities in low- and middle-income countries face many challenges and lack adequate services, including access to rehabilitation professionals. To address this lack of access, Amar Seva Sangam Ayikudy (ASSA), a non-governmental organization (NGO) in India, designed a technology-leveraged rehabilitation program called Enabling Inclusion (EI), and implemented it in one state (Tamil Nadu, India) before scaling it. The model is supported by the EI app, which enables organizations to screen, assess and monitor progress of children with disabilities via rehabilitation specialists and community rehabilitation workers, and to provide family-centered, goal-based interventions.

Investigating the viral ecology and contribution to the microbial ecology in full-scale mesophilic anaerobic digesters.

In an attempt to assess the diversity of viruses and their potential to modulate the metabolism of functional microorganisms in anaerobic digesters, we collected digestate from three mesophilic anaerobic digesters in full-scale wastewater treatment plants treating real municipal wastewater. The reads were analyzed using bioinformatics algorithms to elucidate viral diversity, identify their potential role in modulating the metabolism of functional microorganisms, and provide essential genomic information for the potential use of virus-mediated treatment in controlling the anaerobic digester microbiome. We found that Siphoviridae was the dominant family in mesophilic anaerobic digesters, followed by Myoviridae and Podoviridae.

Feeding Yellow Worms to Meagre: Effects on Whole-Body Fatty Acid Profile and Hepatic and Intestine Oxidative Status.

This study aimed to determine the effects of dietary inclusion of larvae (yellow worms) meal (TM) on meagre fish () whole-body fatty acids (FA) profile and hepatic and intestine oxidative status. For that purpose, fish were fed for 9 weeks a fishmeal-based diet (control) or diets including 10%, 20%, or 30% TM. With the increase in dietary TM level, whole-body oleic acid, linoleic acid, monounsaturated FA, and n-6 polyunsaturated FA (PUFA) increased while saturated FA (SFA), n-3 PUFA, n-3 long chain-PUFA, SFA:PUFA ratio, n3:n6 ratio, and FA retention decreased.
