Ascorbic acid (ASC) has long been proposed as a potential cancer co-treatment due to its specific toxicity towards cancer cells, but discrepancies between in vitro and in vivo studies suggest that external factors may modulate its cytotoxicity. Here, we investigate the impact of hypoxia and iron on the therapeutic effectiveness of ASC on prostate cancer cell lines. Hypoxia-induced increases in the EC of ASC in the prostate cancer cell lines PC-3, DU 145, LNCaP, and CWR22Rv1 but not in the prostate non-cancer cell lines RWPE-1 and TERT-PrECs.

At standard doses, direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) were associated with a reduced risk of systemic embolism and intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) when compared with warfarin, with a greater derived benefit at lower creatinine clearance (CrCl-down to 25 mL/min). The current investigation aims to address the limitations of conventional cancer therapy by developing an advanced, long-term drug delivery system using biocompatible Rose Bengal (RB)-loaded polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) matrices incorporated into 3D printed polycaprolactone (PCL) and polylactic acid (PLA) implants. The anticancer drug RB's high solubility and low lipophilicity require frequent and painful administration to the tumour site, limiting its clinical application. In this study, RB was encapsulated in a PVA (RB@PVA) matrix to overcome these challenges and achieve a localised and sustained drug release system within a biodegradable implant designed to be implanted near the tumour site.

We assessed the impact of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) preventive characteristics on the intentions of pregnant people and healthcare providers (HCPs) to protect infants with a maternal vaccine or monoclonal antibodies (mAbs). Pregnant people and HCPs who treated pregnant people and/or infants were recruited via convenience sample from a general research panel to complete a cross-sectional, web-based survey, including a discrete choice experiment (DCE) wherein respondents chose between hypothetical RSV preventive profiles varying on five attributes (effectiveness, preventive type [maternal vaccine vs. mAb], injection recipient/timing, type of medical visit required to receive the injection, and duration of protection during RSV season) and a no-preventive option.

Background: Genetic testing can offer early diagnosis and subsequent treatment of rare neuromuscular diseases. Options for these tests could be improved by understanding the preferences of patients for the features of different genetic tests, especially features that increase information available to patients.

Methods: We developed an online discrete-choice experiment using key attributes of currently available tests for Pompe disease with six test attributes: number of rare muscle diseases tested for with corresponding probability of diagnosis, treatment availability, time from testing to results, inclusion of secondary findings, necessity of a muscle biopsy, and average time until final diagnosis if the first test is negative.
