Morphological and organic spectroscopic studies of a 44-million-year-old leaf beetle (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) in amber with endogenous remains of chitin.

This study details the quality of preservation of amber deposits in the Eocene. Through Baltic amber crack-out studies using Synchrotron Micro-Computed Tomography and Scanning Electron Microscopy it was found that the cuticle of a specimen of leaf beetle (Crepidodera tertiotertiaria (Alticini: Galerucinae: Chrysomelidae)) is exceptionally well preserved. Spectroscopic analysis using Synchrotron Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy suggests presence of degraded [Formula: see text]-chitin in multiple areas of the cuticle, and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy supports the presence of organic preservation.

PpASCL, the Physcomitrella patens Anther-Specific Chalcone Synthase-Like Enzyme Implicated in Sporopollenin Biosynthesis, Is Needed for Integrity of the Moss Spore Wall and Spore Viability.

Sporopollenin is the main constituent of the exine layer of spore and pollen walls. The anther-specific chalcone synthase-like (ASCL) enzyme of Physcomitrella patens, PpASCL, has previously been implicated in the biosynthesis of sporopollenin, the main constituent of exine and perine, the two outermost layers of the moss spore cell wall. We made targeted knockouts of the corresponding gene, PpASCL, and phenotypically characterized ascl sporophytes and spores at different developmental stages.

A case of human to human transmission of orf between mother and child.

Orf is caused by a parapoxvirus. In adults, it is commonly associated with specific occupations, whereas cases in children tend to be associated with household or recreational exposure. Spontaneous recovery usually occurs within 6 weeks.

A significant transformation occurring in the continuing care industry is an attempt to shift the culture from impersonal institutions into true person-centred care (PCC) homes. This approach re-orients the facility's values, attitudes, norms and hierarchies while creating flexible role descriptions to promote collaborative teamwork. PCC practices will require healthcare teams to develop new approaches that empower residents and families to become partners in the development of a plan of care.

GA101 (a Novel Anti-CD20 Monoclonal Antibody)-Induced Lichenoid Eruption.

Introduction: Obinutuzumab (GA101) is a novel anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody that has been shown to be effective for the treatment of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and is currently being evaluated in phase 3 clinical trials. The side-effect profile of the drug is not yet well established.

Case Report: The authors report a case of a 62-year-old patient who developed widespread lichenoid eruption as a result of GA101 treatment for his follicular non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Diagnosis and treatment of calciphylaxis.

Calciphylaxis occurs due to calcium deposition in arterioles, which leads to ischemic ulceration of overlying skin. Two-year mortality rates from sepsis ranges from 50% to 80%. Calciphylaxis is most common in hyperparathyroidism secondary to chronic renal impairment and rarely occurs in the setting of normal renal function.
