The Therapeutic Drug Monitoring guidelines of Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Neuropsychopharmakologie und Pharmakopsychiatrie had proposed a therapeutic reference range of 10-40 mg/L for levetiracetam in 2011. In the first version of the 2017 update, it was changed to 20-40 mg/L; however, 5 months later, in an erratum version, it was changed back to 10-40 mg/L. In this study, the authors agree with the range to 10-40 mg/L but discuss to what extent a wider interval may be proposed for certain patients.

Cyamemazine is the most prescribed antipsychotic drug in France, often in combination with another antipsychotic, for its sedative and anxiolytic component. Providing to physicians serum concentrations of cyamemazine in different contexts (compliance checking, ineffectiveness, adverse effects, intoxication, modification of pharmacokinetic parameters…) requires to interpret them correctly. This article presents an update on how to interpret a concentration of cyamemazine, wich remains poorly documented.

Article Synopsis
  • Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a leading cause of congenital infections, with around 20% of infected newborns developing sensorineural hearing loss; targeted screening for cCMV in those who fail hearing screening may help identify and treat affected infants early.
  • In a study involving 236 newborns in Paris, saliva samples for CMV testing were successfully collected from 98% of participants, showing results within 9 days, and confirming hearing loss in 2.8% of cases.
  • The findings indicate that implementing targeted cCMV screening is practical and effective in identifying infected neonates who may benefit from early antiviral treatment.

Stabilizing layers of colloidal dispersions or emulsions to obtain homogeneous films is a real challenge. We describe here a new kind of instability in drying films of emulsions: during evaporation of the internal phase, cracks appear between the droplets that create aggregates according to a regular pattern. We show that this pattern only appears if the emulsion is adhesive, i.

Background: Direct support workers (DSWs) accompany adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and intellectual disability (ID) in residential care homes. Such DSWs, without specialised ASD training, are exposed to chronic stress linked to supporting ASD-ID clients and must adjust by coping strategies adapted to the needs of the residents. Nevertheless, difficulties adjusting constitute a burnout risk for DSWs, characterised by high levels of emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation and loss of a sense of personal accomplishment.

Venlafaxine is the third most frequently prescribed antidepressant in France the last decade, with about 400,000 daily doses. Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) of this medication, by measuring the active moiety venlafaxine (V) and O-desmethylvenlafaxine (ODV), is recommended (level of recommendation 2). However, this antidepressant seems to be the one for which clinicians most often use TDM, much more frequently than escitalopram, which is more prescribed and for which TDM is also recommended.

Objectives: To compare the ability of detailed routine ultrasound examination, performed without knowledge of maternal serology and fetal status, with that of targeted prenatal imaging performed in prenatal diagnostic units in cases of known fetal infection to identify cytomegalovirus (CMV)-infected fetuses that will develop long-term sequelae.

Methods: All prenatal imaging reports were collected for 255 children with congenital CMV in a registered cohort between 2013 and 2017 (NCT01923636). All women had undergone detailed routine fetal ultrasound examination at 20-24 and 30-34 weeks as part of routine antenatal care.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is an early-onset and lifelong neurodevelopmental condition frequently associated with intellectual disability (ID). Although emerging studies suggest that ASD is associated with premature ageing and various medical comorbidities, as described for ID, data are scarce. To determine the comorbidity burden and its association with distinct clinical presentation in terms of ASD severity, adaptive skills, level of autonomy, and drug exposure in a well-phenotyped sample of individuals with ASD-ID-the EFAAR (Frailty Assessment in Ageing Adults with Autism Spectrum and Intellectual Disabilities) cohort.

Background: The known relationship between the gestational age at maternal primary infection an the outcome of congenital CMV is based on small, retrospective studies conducted between 1980 and 2011. They reported that 32% and 15% of cases had sequelae following a maternal primary infection in the first and second or the third trimester, respectively. We aimed to revisit this relationship prospectively between 2011 and 2017, using accurate virological tools.
