Although strandings declined in 2020 and 2021 from a peak in 2019, the UME is still ongoing as of fall 2023. Between 17 December 2018 and 31 December 2021, 503 animals stranded along the west coast of North America, with 226 strandings in Mexico, 71 in California, 12 in Oregon, 56 in Washington, 21 in British Columbia, and 117 in Alaska.

In this study we used transcriptomics to study the effect of high and low sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim (SMX-TM) concentrations on prophage induction, biofilm regulation, and virulence gene expression in strain PA20 under environmental conditions following 5-hour and 12-hour exposures in broth or on agar. SMX-TM at a sub-lethal concentration induced strong RecA expression resulting in concentration- and time-dependent major transcriptional shifts with emphasis on up-regulation of genes within horizontally-transferred chromosomal regions (HTR).

This paper describes my experiences exploring consciousness as an artist-engraver, in particular the sense of reawakening the participatory primal mind, which came about through the act of engraving. This 'original participation' is viewed as a fundamental characteristic of our early Acheuelan ancestors and evidence is presented to show that they possessed both a 'modern' esthetic sense and also a prayerful, sacramental consciousness. It is suggested that this primal consciousness is a fundamental human quality that became eclipsed in the modern mind by the denial of participation and the Cartesian split between subject and object during the Scientific Revolution.

Objectives: To investigate inter-examiner variability in gonioscopic evaluation of pectinate ligament abnormality in dogs and to assess level of inter-examiner agreement for four different gonioscopy grading schemes.
Materials And Methods: Two examiners performed gonioscopy in 98 eyes of 49 Welsh springer spaniel dogs and estimated the percentage circumference of iridocorneal angle affected by pectinate ligament abnormality to the nearest 5%. Percentage scores assigned to each eye by the two examiners were compared.
Expression of the major biofilm components of E. coli, curli fimbriae and cellulose, requires the CsgD transcription factor. A complex regulatory network allows environmental control of csgD transcription and biofilm formation.
