[Diagnostic value of suspicion criteria for early-onset neonatal bacterial infection: report ten years after the Anaes recommendations].

Background: Because clinical symptoms and biological markers are neither sensitive nor specific, newborns are frequently suspected of having an infection. In France, 30-50% of newborns are suspected of having early-onset sepsis (EOS) and many of them undergo laboratory tests and empirical antibiotic treatments while awaiting results. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of various suspicion criteria for EOS as recommended by the Anaes since 2002, and the value of umbilical cord blood procalcitonin (PCT), currently assayed in our maternity ward.

SR146131: a new potent, orally active, and selective nonpeptide cholecystokinin subtype 1 receptor agonist. I. In vitro studies.

SR146131 inhibited the binding of [125I]-Bolton Hunter (BH)-sulfated cholecystokinin octapeptide (CCK-8S) for the human recombinant cholecystokinin subtype 1 (CCK1) receptor (IC50 = 0.56 nM) with high (300-fold) selectivity to the CCK2 receptor. The biological activity of SR146131 was characterized in vitro in a NIH-3T3 cell line expressing the human recombinant CCK1 receptor (3T3-hCCK1).

Activity of pentosan polysulphate and derived compounds on vascular endothelial cell proliferation and migration induced by acidic and basic FGF in vitro.

Pentosan polysulphate (PPS, SP 54, HEMOCLAR), a highly sulphated semi-synthetic polysaccharide of MW 4700 Daltons is as efficient as heparin in potentiating the mitogenic activity of acidic FGF (aFGF) on human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC). When added to basic FGF (bFGF), no effect was observed on these cells. However, PPS had a strong inhibitory effect on the growth of bovine aortic endothelial cells (BAEC), as did heparin.
