Hallux valgus; An observational study on patient characteristics, surgical treatment and pre-operative HRQoL from the Swedish foot and ankle register (Swefoot).

Introduction: Hallux valgus (HV) is a common condition with impact on pain, function and HrQoL. International consensus does not exist on operative treatment of HV and population-level data regarding surgical treatment of HV is lacking. In this study we aimed to present base-line data from surgically treated HV patients reported to the Swedish register for foot and ankle surgery (Swefoot) during the period 2014-2021.

Surgically treated adult acquired flatfoot deformity: Register-based study of patient characteristics, health-related quality of life and type of surgery according to severity.

Background: Population-level data describing patient characteristics and interventions used in surgical treatment of adult acquired flatfoot deformity (AAFD) is lacking.

Methods: We analyzed baseline patient-reported data including PROMs and surgical interventions for patients with AAFD reported to the Swedish Quality Register for Foot and Ankle Surgery (Swefoot) 2014-2021.

Results: 625 feet with primary AAFD surgery were registered.

Arsenic in Lake Geneva (Switzerland, France): long term monitoring, and redox and methylation speciation in an As unpolluted, oligo-mesotrophic lake.

Arsenic speciation was followed monthly along the spring productivity period (January-June 2021) in the Petit Lac (76 m deep) and in April and June 2021 in the Grand Lac (309.7 m deep) of Lake Geneva (Switzerland/France). Lake Geneva is presently an oligo-mesotrophic lake, and As-unpolluted.

EFAS Score-Validation of Spanish and Estonian Versions by the Score Committee of the European Foot and Ankle Society (EFAS).

Background: The Score Committee of the European Foot and Ankle Society (EFAS) developed, validated, and published the EFAS Score in 11 languages (Dutch, English, German, Finnish, French, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Persian, Swedish, Turkish). From other languages under validation, the Spanish and Estonian versions completed data acquisition and underwent further validation.

Methods: The EFAS Score was developed and validated in three stages: 1) item (question) identification (completed during the initial validation study), 2) item reduction and scale exploration (completed during the initial validation study), 3) confirmatory analyses and responsiveness of the Spanish and Estonian versions (completed during the initial validation study in seven other languages).

Patient-reported outcome for 17,648 patients in 5 different Swedish orthopaedic quality registers before and 1 year after surgery: an observational study.

Background And Purpose: The EQ-5D is a patientreported outcome measure (PROM). To make priorities and allocate resources between patients and surgical procedures it is necessary to evaluate outcome differences, which is why comparing PROMs between registers is important. We compared EQ-5D data and the follow-up rate for selected diagnoses reported to Swedish orthopedic registers before and 1 year after surgery.

Swefoot - The Swedish national quality register for foot and ankle surgery.

Background: Population-based register data could be used to improve our knowledge of patients surgically treated for foot and ankle disorders. The quality register Swefoot was recently created to collect surgical and patient-reported data of foot and ankle surgery. This manuscript aims to describe the development and current use of the register.

Foot and Ankle Problems in Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis in 2019: Still an Important Issue.

Objective: To study the prevalence of foot pain in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and whether including a 12-joint foot count in addition to the 28-joint count (from the Disease Activity Score 28 [DAS28]) improved detection of foot or ankle pain. In addition, the association between the self-reported foot and ankle score (SEFAS), patient-reported function, and disease-specific factors was studied.

Methods: Physician-reported data (swollen/tender 12-joint foot count, DAS28, and medication) and patient-reported data (foot/ankle pain, physical function, global health, and SEFAS) were assessed during a clinical visit.

Synthesis of New Triazolopyrazine Antimalarial Compounds.

A radical approach to late-stage functionalization using photoredox and Diversinate chemistry on the Open Source Malaria (OSM) triazolopyrazine scaffold (Series 4) resulted in the synthesis of 12 new analogues, which were characterized by NMR, UV, and MS data analysis. The structures of four triazolopyrazines were confirmed by X-ray crystal structure analysis. Several minor and unexpected side products were generated during these studies, including two resulting from a possible disproportionation reaction.

Energy and Protein Intake After Return Home in Colorectal Surgery Patients With an Enhanced Recovery Program: A Prospective Observational Study.

Background: In patients scheduled for colorectal surgery with an enhanced recovery program (ERP), feeding after returning home has been insufficiently investigated. The aim of this study was to measure energy and protein intake during the first month at home.

Methods: Seventy adult patients scheduled for colorectal surgery with ERP were included.

Transcultural adaptation and validation of the Spanish-French versions of the Self-reported Foot and Ankle Score (SEFAS).

Objective: The study aim was to cross-culturally adapt the Self-reported Foot and Ankle Score (SEFAS) into Spanish and French-language versions, to validate them and to evaluate their psychometric properties.

Methods: The cross-cultural translation from the original SEFAS into French and Spanish was performed in accordance with the guidelines of the ISPOR. The participants were recruited from some private healthcare institutions in France and Sapin, from June to August 2019.

Background and purpose - Hallux rigidus (HR) may cause decreased range of motion, joint pain, and gait disturbances. There is a lack of evidence regarding the outcome of different surgical procedures for moderate HR. We report patient-reported outcomes after joint-preserving surgical procedures for moderate HR.

Daily School Physical Activity Improves Academic Performance.

Physical activity (PA) may improve brain development, cognition, concentration and academic performance. In this prospective controlled intervention study, we increased the level of PA in 338 children aged 6-8 years at study start, from the Swedish standard of 60 min per week to 200 min per week (40 min daily). The intervention continued in all nine compulsory school years until the students graduated between 2007-2012.

Diagnostic accuracy of R-wave detection by insertable cardiac monitors.

Background: Insertable cardiac monitors (ICM) allow prolonged rhythm monitoring, but the diagnostic performance can be hampered by false positive arrhythmia alerts related to inadequate R-wave sensing. This study assesses the prevalence and predictors of inadequate R-wave sensing (both over- and undersensing) among different ICM types.

Methods: Patients implanted with an ICM at Ghent University Hospital between January 2017 and August 2018 were included.

Reaction of Papaverine with Baran Diversinates.

The reaction of papaverine with a series of Baran Diversinates is reported. Although the yields were low, it was possible to synthesize a small biodiscovery library using this plant alkaloid as a scaffold for late-stage C-H functionalization. Ten papaverine analogues (-), including seven new compounds, were synthesized.

Simultaneous targeting of DNA replication and homologous recombination in glioblastoma with a polyether ionophore.

Background: Despite significant endeavor having been applied to identify effective therapies to treat glioblastoma (GBM), survival outcomes remain intractable. The greatest nonsurgical benefit arises from radiotherapy, though tumors typically recur due to robust DNA repair. Patients could therefore benefit from therapies with the potential to prevent DNA repair and synergize with radiotherapy.

Identification of a Novel Scaffold for Inhibition of Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4.

Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) is considered a major drug target for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). In addition to T2DM, a regulatory role of DPP-4 was also found in cardiovascular diseases. Existing DPP-4 inhibitors have been reported to have several adverse effects.

One aim of the Bunkeflo project is to evaluate if daily school physical activity (PA) is associated with higher final school grades and improved eligibility for upper secondary school. One elementary school extended PA throughout elementary school to 200 minutes/week while control schools continued with in mean 60 minutes/week. We then registered final school grades and eligibility for upper secondary school in children who began first grade in the intervention school during the years before the intervention (1994-1997) and in the children who started 1998-2003 (that is, who had daily PA during the 9 compulsory school years).

Trehalose 6-phosphate phosphatases of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

The opportunistic bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa has been recognized as an important pathogen of clinical relevance and is a leading cause of hospital-acquired infections.
