Objectives: To investigate the association between venous tumor thrombus (VTT) and the risk of pulmonary metastases in patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC).
Methods: We queried our institutional registry for ccRCC patients undergoing radical nephrectomy (1970-2019). Cox proportional hazards regression models, adjusting for factors associated with ccRCC progression, were used to determine whether VTT was associated with pulmonary metastases.
An unavoidable consequence of chicken meat production is the generation of substantial quantities of spent litter. This poses several environmental and social challenges, as broiler farms become hotspots for odour emissions. The main source of odour from broiler litter is the microbial decomposition of organic material.

Burrell et al. draw on their own experience to offer recommendations that may help increase researchers’ resilience to these challenges.

Patients And Methods: A phase 1 safety run-in of the combination of anetumab ravtansine (6.5 mg/kg iv q3weeks) and pembrolizumab (200 mg, IV q3weeks) was conducted, followed by a phase 2 randomization to the combination or pembrolizumab alone at medical centers across the United States and Canada in the National Cancer Institute's Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network.
The goal of this study was to investigate the impact of the age of acquisition (AoA) on functional brain representations of sign language in two exceptional groups of hearing bimodal bilinguals: native signers (simultaneous bilinguals since early childhood) and late signers (proficient sequential bilinguals, who learnt a sign language after puberty). We asked whether effects of AoA would be present across languages - signed and audiovisual spoken - and thus observed only in late signers as they acquired each language at different life stages, and whether effects of AoA would be present during sign language processing across groups. Moreover, we aimed to carefully control participants' level of sign language proficiency by implementing a battery of language tests developed for the purpose of the project, which confirmed that participants had high competences of sign language.

This study investigated lignite, a low-rank brown coal, as an amendment to reduce the loss of carbon and nitrogen from broiler litter over 3 consecutive grow-out cycles, November 2021 to May 2022, at a commercially operated farm in Victoria, Australia. Lignite-treated litter contained significantly more carbon and nitrogen, with an increase of 70.

Next generation sequencing results were evaluated for pPC (n = 97), locally advanced disease (involving urinary bladder/rectum, n = 12), mNC-PC (n = 21), and mCR-PC (n = 54). We identified enrichment of TP53 alterations in high-grade pPC, TP53/RB1 alterations in HGNE disease, and AR alterations in metastatic and castrate resistant disease.

Sorafenib, an oral multi kinase inhibitor also promotes apoptosis and inhibits tumor angiogenesis. The efficacy of either agent alone is limited; however, preclinical studies demonstrate synergy with the combination of navitoclax and sorafenib.

However, patients often lose part of their function with each successive admission, and are at a high risk for hospital-associated complications such as nosocomial infection.

Methods: Retrospective, single-institution review of adult patients undergoing percutaneous cryoablation for adrenal mRCC between the years of 2007-2021. Technical parameters, technical success, safety, and survival were analyzed according to standard criteria.
Background: The Surgery in Early Metastatic Seminoma (SEMS) trial examined retroperitoneal lymph node dissection as first-line treatment for patients with isolated 1-3 cm retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy. To date, the standard of care for these patients has been either chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Herein, we evaluated the relative cost-effectiveness of these management strategies.

Background: Left atrial myopathy has been implicated in atrial fibrillation (AF)-related stroke and embolic stroke of undetermined source (ESUS).
Objective: To use advanced cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging techniques, including left atrial (LA) strain and 4D flow CMR, to identify atrial myopathy in patients with ESUS.
Methods: 20 patients with ESUS and no AF or other cause for stroke, and 20 age and sex-matched controls underwent CMR with 4D flow analysis.
Introduction: Systemic immunotherapy has changed the paradigm of treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma, but nephrectomy continues to benefit selected patients. While we continue to identify mechanisms behind drug resistance, the effect of surgery on natural anti-tumor immunity is poorly understood. Specifically, peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) profile and tumor reactive cytotoxic T lymphocytes changes secondary to tumor resection have not been extensively characterized.

However, the relative contribution of histopathological features of the metastasis has not been extensively studied. Herein, we compared models using clinical, primary tumor, and metastatic features to predict cancer-specific survival for patients with surgically resected metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma.

Endoscopy staff suffer work-related musculoskeletal disorders at a rate greater than or comparable to nurses and technicians in other subspecialities, which may be attributable to the widespread use of manual pressure and repositioning during colonoscopy. In addition to negatively impacting staff health and job performance, colonoscopy-related musculoskeletal disorder injuries may also signal potential risks to patient safety. To assess the prevalence of staff injury and perceived patient harm relating to the use of manual pressure and repositioning techniques during colonoscopy, 185 attendees of a recent national meeting of the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates were asked to recall experiencing injuries to themselves or observing injuries to other staff or patients during colonoscopy.

Patients And Methods: Patients with a pathologic diagnosis of de novo NEPC or T-NEPC between 2000 and 2020 who received first-line platinum and any second-line systemic therapy were selected and standardized clinical data was collected via the electronic health record at each institution.
