The enzyme cyclooxygenase 2 is an inducible enzyme expressed at sites of inflammation and in a variety of malignant solid tumors such as endometrial cancer (EC). In EC patients, its over-expression is correlated with progressive disease and poor prognosis. The expression is encoded by a polymorphic gene, called PTGS2.

A CHO/fibre diet reduces and a MUFA diet increases postprandial lipaemia in type 2 diabetes: no supplementary effects of low-volume physical training.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of a supervised physical training added to a healthy diet-rich in either carbohydrate and fibre (CHO/fibre) or monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA)-on postprandial dyslipidaemia, an independent cardiovascular risk factor particularly relevant in type 2 diabetes (T2D). Participants were forty-five overweight/obese subjects with T2D, of both genders, in good blood glucose control with diet or diet+metformin, with normal fasting plasma lipids. According to a parallel groups 2 × 2 factorial design, participants were randomized to an 8-week isoenergetic intervention with a CHO/fibre or a MUFA diet, with or without a supervised low-volume aerobic training programme.

Introduction: Primary tuberculosis of the cervix is extremely rare, with only 20 cases reported in the English literature since 1949. Here we report the 21st case--an Italian woman with no risk factors.

Colouterine fistula complicating diverticulitis diagnosed at hysteroscopy: case report.

Since Noecker first reported a colouterine fistula secondary to diverticulitis in 1929, about 20 cases have been reported in the literature. Methods for diagnosis have yet to be established. Herein we report the first case of a colouterine fistula at the level of the isthmus diagnosed at hysteroscopy.

Nutrient determinants of postprandial triglyceride response in a population-based sample of type II diabetic patients.

Background: Nutrient determinants of postprandial triglyceride (TG) are matter of debate, especially for type II diabetes.

Objective: This study was performed to evaluate the impact of dietary habits on postprandial TG response in a population-based sample of type II diabetic patients.

Design: One-hundred and forty type II diabetic patients (63 men/77 women, age 45-70 years) referring to the same health district, not on hypolipidemic drugs and without any other chronic disease, performed four TG profiles (at fasting, before, 2 and 3 h after lunch) with a specific device (Accutrend GCT, Roche Diagnostics Mannheim, Germany) validated previously.

Heart transplantation in patients with chronic hepatitis B: clinical evolution, molecular analysis, and effect of treatment.

We evaluated clinical evolution and hepatitis B virus (HBV) molecular changes in heart recipients with chronic HBV infection before transplantation, and studied the effects of lamivudine treatment in patients who experienced HBV reactivation. Nine patients with chronic HBV infection who underwent heart transplantation were investigated. HBV surface/core-promoter/precore/core regions were sequenced.
