Article Synopsis
  • * Out of 113 cases, the majority underwent surgical resection; about 40% received chemotherapy, with lymphadenectomy linked to better survival outcomes.
  • * Findings indicate that patients typically present in their 50s, with early-stage cases; however, factors like advanced stage and higher mitotic counts negatively impact survival, suggesting the need for a standardized international registry for better data on diagnosis and treatment.

The enzyme cyclooxygenase 2 is an inducible enzyme expressed at sites of inflammation and in a variety of malignant solid tumors such as endometrial cancer (EC). In EC patients, its over-expression is correlated with progressive disease and poor prognosis. The expression is encoded by a polymorphic gene, called PTGS2.

Aims: To evaluate feasibility and effectiveness on short-term blood glucose control of using glycaemic load counting (GLC) versus carbohydrate counting (CC) for prandial insulin dosing in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Methods: Nine T1D patients on insulin pump, aged 26-58 years, HbA1c 7.7 ± 0.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of a supervised physical training added to a healthy diet-rich in either carbohydrate and fibre (CHO/fibre) or monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA)-on postprandial dyslipidaemia, an independent cardiovascular risk factor particularly relevant in type 2 diabetes (T2D). Participants were forty-five overweight/obese subjects with T2D, of both genders, in good blood glucose control with diet or diet+metformin, with normal fasting plasma lipids. According to a parallel groups 2 × 2 factorial design, participants were randomized to an 8-week isoenergetic intervention with a CHO/fibre or a MUFA diet, with or without a supervised low-volume aerobic training programme.

Introduction: Primary tuberculosis of the cervix is extremely rare, with only 20 cases reported in the English literature since 1949. Here we report the 21st case--an Italian woman with no risk factors.

Case: A 50-year-old Italian nulliparous woman was referred to our gynecology unit for vaginal discharge.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of qualitative dietary changes and the interaction with aerobic exercise training on liver fat content independent of weight loss in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Research Design And Methods: With use of a factorial 2 × 2 randomized parallel-group design, 37 men and 8 women, aged 35-70 years, with type 2 diabetes in satisfactory blood glucose control on diet or diet plus metformin treatment were assigned to one of the following groups for an 8-week period: 1) high-carbohydrate/high-fiber/low-glycemic index diet (CHO/fiber group), 2) high-MUFA diet (MUFA group), 3) high-carbohydrate/high-fiber/low-glycemic index diet plus physical activity program (CHO/fiber+Ex group), and 4) high-MUFA diet plus physical activity program (MUFA+Ex group). Before and after intervention, hepatic fat content was measured by (1)H NMR.

Since Noecker first reported a colouterine fistula secondary to diverticulitis in 1929, about 20 cases have been reported in the literature. Methods for diagnosis have yet to be established. Herein we report the first case of a colouterine fistula at the level of the isthmus diagnosed at hysteroscopy.

Background: Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is an autoimmune blistering disease of the skin and mucous membranes. Genital involvement occurs when most other common sites are concurrently affected or are in remission. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease that may affect many parts of the body and the skin with occasional bullous lesions.

Background: Nutrient determinants of postprandial triglyceride (TG) are matter of debate, especially for type II diabetes.

Objective: This study was performed to evaluate the impact of dietary habits on postprandial TG response in a population-based sample of type II diabetic patients.

Design: One-hundred and forty type II diabetic patients (63 men/77 women, age 45-70 years) referring to the same health district, not on hypolipidemic drugs and without any other chronic disease, performed four TG profiles (at fasting, before, 2 and 3 h after lunch) with a specific device (Accutrend GCT, Roche Diagnostics Mannheim, Germany) validated previously.

We evaluated clinical evolution and hepatitis B virus (HBV) molecular changes in heart recipients with chronic HBV infection before transplantation, and studied the effects of lamivudine treatment in patients who experienced HBV reactivation. Nine patients with chronic HBV infection who underwent heart transplantation were investigated. HBV surface/core-promoter/precore/core regions were sequenced.
