The Best Linear Unbiased Predictions (BLUPs), Genomic Estimated Breeding Values (GEBVs), and Genomic Estimated Genotypic Values (GETGVs) were obtained based on different prediction models via genomic selection.

A new species of the Cambeva variegata group (Siluriformes: Trichomycteridae) from the Serra do Espinhaço, south-eastern Brazil, under severe risk of extinction.

The mountain ranges of southeastern and southern Brazil are inhabited by a great diversity of catfishes of the genus Cambeva. The Cambeva variegata group, diagnosed by having a prominent skin crest similar to an adipose fin, an interrupted supraorbital laterosensory canal, with an additional supraorbital S4 pore, and a relatively small premaxilla with an accentuated constriction on its lateral portion, occurs in a broad area of south-eastern Brazil, mostly within the savannah-like Cerrado vegetation at the northern-most part of the genus distribution. The new species described here was collected in streams of the Rio das Velhas drainage, Rio São Francisco basin, draining the Serra do Espinhaço.

This prism, with internal incidence angles ranging from 30° to 48°, allows users to record internal reflection spectra below the critical angle and attenuated total reflection (ATR) spectra above the critical angle without the need to change optics or move or replace the sample. Methods: A retrospective cohort analysis was performed on patients with clinical Stage II and III gastric adenocarcinoma who underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by either MIS or OG between 2007 and 2020.

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis to Prevent Hematophagous Bat-Mediated Rabies Outbreaks in Remote Amazon Communities: Lessons from a Pilot for Public Health Policy.

In 2018, an outbreak of human rabies caused by the hematophagous bat hit the Brazilian Amazon Basin community of Melgaço, Brazil, resulting in the death of 10 people, 9 of them children. The incidence of rabies has been on the rise among populations in conditions of vulnerability in this ecosystem due to human expansion into sylvatic environments and limited access to public health services. To address this issue, in September 2019, a collaborative effort from national, local, and international institutions promoted and executed a pilot for pre-exposure prophylaxis of a population in high-risk areas for hematophagous bat-mediated rabies.

Eugenia flavescens is a species cultivated in Brazil for food purposes. Given the potential application of essential oils from plants of the genus Eugenia, this study was carried out to investigate the chemical composition, acute toxicity, antioxidant, antinociceptive, gastroprotective activities, and possible mechanisms of action of the essential oil from the leaves of E. flavescens (EOEf).

Modified laparoscopic transthoracic hepatectomy for upper liver segments: Technique, indications, and early outcomes.

Transthoracic access emerges as an innovative approach to reach lesions in the upper hepatic segments, especially in patients with prior surgeries. This study evaluates transthoracic access for these resections through a retrospective single-center analysis of demographic data, surgical techniques, and postoperative outcomes of 353 liver surgeries, revealing promising results with minimal complications. Transthoracic access and pneumoperitoneum establishment via the transthoracic route, combined with intercostal trocar insertion, offer a viable alternative for minimally invasive liver surgeries.
