Objective: The prevalence of Thyroid-Cancer (TC) has increased worldwide and an association with metabolic and cardio-vascular disorders has been reported. Moreover, an increasing percentage of patients are currently diagnosed incidentally through non-thyroid related imaging for other clinical conditions. Our aim was to assess the prevalence of Thyroid-Related (TD) versus Incidental (ID) pre-surgery reasons leading to TC diagnosis and to compare the two groups in terms of clinical characteristics, size and severity of TC at presentation and rate of non-thyroid cancers and cardiovascular/metabolic comorbidities.

Although remdesivir (RDV) emerged as one of the most promising drugs, its pharmaceutical formulation Veklury® is limited by moderate efficacy, high toxicity and need for parenteral administration. The aim of the present work was to develop a liposomal formulation of RDV for pulmonary administration and evaluate its efficacy in models of COVID-19.

Growth, conductance, and hydraulic conductivity of the root system of 16 genotypes were evaluated in Experiment 1 (November 2013). In Experiment 2 (December 2014), in addition to the previous characteristics, gas exchange, photochemical efficiency, leaf water potential, and leaf hydraulic conductivity were investigated in five genotypes.

Influenza A and B viruses represent significant global health threats, contributing substantially to morbidity and mortality rates. However, a comprehensive understanding of the molecular epidemiology of these viruses in Brazil, a continental-size country and a crucial hub for the entry, circulation, and dissemination of influenza viruses within South America, still needs to be improved. This study addresses this gap by consolidating data and samples across all Brazilian macroregions, as part of the Center for Viral Surveillance and Serological Assessment project, together with an extensive number of other Brazilian sequences provided by a public database during the epidemic seasons spanning 2021-23.

As they are rare tumors, patients often have difficulty finding teams specialized in sarcomas and support networks. In low- and middle-income countries, the challenges are exacerbated due to a need for established networks and medication access.

Purinergic signaling plays a major role in aging and neurodegenerative diseases, which are associated with memory decline. Blackcurrant (BC), an anthocyanin-rich berry, is renowned for its antioxidant and neuroprotective activities. However, evidence on the effects of BC on purinergic signaling is lacking.

Given the high hydrophobicity of this compound and aiming to create efficient vehicle for its administration in aqueous systems, the objective of the present work was to develop a microcapsule (MCAA) by spray dryer technique, based on the polysaccharide sodium hyaluronate (SH), containing AA as its core, encapsulated from nanoemulsion. The Encapsulation Efficiency of MCAA presented a value equal to 95.

Acknowledging relevant risk factors can inform preventive strategies. This study aimed to identify chronic pain profiles 6 months after arthroplasty using the ICD-11 (International Classification of Diseases) classification and to find pre and postsurgical predictors of these profiles.

Purpose: PSMA-PET is a reference standard examination for patients with prostate cancer, but even using recently introduced digital PET detectors image acquisition with standard field-of-view scanners is still in the range of 20 min. This may cause limited access to examination slots because of the growing demand for PSMA-PET. Ultra-fast PSMA-PET may enhance throughput but comes at the cost of poor image quality.

We investigated associations of personality with actigraphic sleep parameters and changes in sleep in 398 cognitively normal adults aged 40-95 years (M ± SD = 70.1 ± 12.

However, deletions of the pfhrp2 and pfhrp3 genes can lead to false negative test results and compromise appropriate case management.

Chorioamnionitis is a significant contributor to non-hypoxic fetal compromise, increasing the risk of neonatal encephalopathy and cerebral palsy. This paper highlights the limitations of traditional diagnostic methods for chorioamnionitis, which rely on histopathology, microbiology, and clinical signs, and emphasizes the importance of recognizing the fetal inflammatory response using intrapartum cardiotocography (CTG). By understanding the physiological pathways of inflammation, clinicians can identify characteristic CTG patterns.

Method: We will conduct a hybrid type 1 effectiveness-implementation pragmatic randomized clinical trial, with 198 individuals with type 2 diabetes on insulin therapy, from the Glycemic Self-Monitoring Program of two Primary Health Care in the city of São Paulo and three in Campinas, located in the state of Sao Paulo. Patients will be allocated in a 1:1 ratio to either the intervention or control group.
Background: Digital Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) offer significant opportunities to enhance public health, particularly through their strategic use in promoting health literacy.
Objectives: This systematic review protocol aims to outline the methodological steps necessary to conduct a systematic review of the effectiveness of digital interventions in improving health literacy among informal caregivers.
Methods: This review will include studies involving adult informal caregivers (≥18 years) undergoing a digital health intervention promoting health literacy.
Selenium is one of the most important trace element micronutrients for the global biota, mainly due to its role in protecting against oxidative stress. However, this element can become toxic when present at concentrations slightly higher than those needed for metabolic purposes. It can be transferred through the food chain toward higher trophic levels, with bioaccumulation and biomagnification leading to possible toxicity.

Acute rhinossinusitis is defined as a symptomatic inflammation of the nasal fossa and paranasal sinuses. The diagnosis of this disease is clinical and usually does not require imaging evaluation. However, when there is a suspicion of a complication or even for surgical planning, imaging is of primordial importance.

Analyzing 79 patients, we found distinct gene expression patterns between acute YF, other viral infections, and the milder YF-17D vaccine infection. We identified a critical role for low-density, immature neutrophils in severe outcomes, marked by the downregulation of genes essential for neutrophil migration and maturation, such as PADI4, CSF3R, and ICAM1, in deceased patients.

Objective: To investigate the associations between sexual health dimensions, and overall health and well-being.
Methods: In February 2024, we systematically searched Scopus, PsyArticles, PsycINFO®, PubMed®, Web of Science and LILACS for articles reporting on associations between sexual health, health and well-being indicators. We applied no language restrictions and followed the 2020 Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines.
