Background And Objectives: Sickle cell trait (SCT) persons are significant donors, and discarding these blood units reduces their supplies, mainly in the third-world countries. This work focused on 12 metabolites associated with the red blood cell (RBC) storage lesion and 23 amino acids in the supernatants of packed RBC units from SCT and reference (non-SCT) donors stored in the same conditions.

Materials And Methods: All samples of RBC concentrates were collected and separated from the storage of Colsan (Beneficient Association of Blood Collection), where they were routinely processed and separated as packed RBC units and stored in the refrigerator (2°-6°C).

Differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) in children is uncommon; clinical presentation over recent decades is incompletely characterized. This retrospective cohort study analyzed demographic and disease characteristics of consecutive juveniles with DTC treated from 1970 to 2015 at Poland's largest pediatric DTC referral center, Maria Sklodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology, Gliwice, who had available records. Sex, age, histopathological characteristics, and DTC stage were documented.

Antimicrobial resistance is a natural mechanism in microorganisms, making the treatment of infections more complex in human and veterinary medicine. Global exotic and ornamental bird markets have significantly increased, and the close relationship between pets and humans makes exploring the potential role of these birds as vectors for the spread of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria imperative. This study aimed to use culture-dependent methods to investigate cloacal bacteria and the presence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in four breeding stocks of ornamental birds.

The role of autologous bone marrow transplantation in primary effusion lymphoma: a case report and literature review.

Primary effusion lymphoma (PEL) is an aggressive and rare type of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBL) that commonly presents itself as pleural, pericardial or peritoneal effusion without lymph node or extranodal involvement in immunosuppressed patients, such as HIV-positive or transplanted receptors. On rare occasions, it may be found in solid sites without effusion, in an immunophenotypically and morphologically similar neoplasm well-known as extracavitary PEL (EC-PEL). Both PEL and EC-PEL are associated with extremely poor prognosis.

Influence of Medical Mistrust on Prevention Behavior and Decision-Making Among Minoritized Youth and Young Adults During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Background: Medical mistrust (MM) is seen as a barrier to assessing healthcare needs and addressing health disparities; however, limited literature has focused on assessing MM for vulnerable populations, especially racial/ethnic minority and sexual/gender minority youth and young adults (YYA).

Methods: Between February 2021 and March 2022, we conducted the Youth and Young Adults COVID-19 Study, a prospective cohort of minoritized YYA aged 14 to 24 years (n = 1027), within the United States and its territories. Participants were recruited through a combination of paid social media ads, outreach with organizations serving marginalized youth, and an existing registry, targeting racial and ethnic minority and LGBTQ + youth for a study on COVID-19 health behaviors.

Objective: To examine case logs reported by general surgery residents and identify potential disparities in operative experience.

Background: A recent study of 21 institutions noted significant differences between the number of cases reported during general surgery residency by trainees who are underrepresented in medicine (URiM) versus trainees who are not URiM (non-URiM). This study also identified differences between female residents and male residents.

Serologic profiling of D variants in donor routine: unveiling the impact on false-negative results and alloimmunization.

The high number of D variants can lead to the unnecessary use of Rh immune globulin, overuse of D- RBC units, and anti-D allommunization. D variant prevalence varies among ethnic groups, and knowledge of the main variants present in a specific population, their behavior in serologic tests, and their impact on clinical practice is crucial to define the best serologic tests for routine use. The present study aimed to explore the serologic profile of D variants and to determine which variants are most associated with false-negative D typing results and alloimmunization.

Non-cytotoxic innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) have been added to the list of immune cells that may contribute to the tumor microenvironment. Elevated levels of total ILCs and their subgroups have been reported in peripheral blood and tissue samples from patients with solid tumors, but their frequency in non-Hodgkin lymphomas, particularly diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), has not been clearly established.
