Objective: This study investigates whether urinary cortisol (UC) and UC-to-creatinine ratio (UCCR) perform better than basal serum cortisol (BSC) in identifying dogs with hypoadrenocorticism (HA).
Methods: A retrospective, multicenter study with 120 client-owned dogs included: 20 with HA, 42 healthy, and 60 with diseases mimicking HA. The UC and UCCR were determined on urine samples using a chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassay.
Bempedoic acid is a new drug that improves the control of cholesterol levels, either as monotherapy or in combination with existing lipid-lowering therapies, and shows clinical efficacy in cardiovascular disease patients. Thus, patients with comorbidities and under multiple therapies may be eligible for bempedoic acid, thus facing the potential problem of drug-drug interactions (DDIs). Bempedoic acid is a prodrug administered orally at a fixed daily dose of 180 mg.

This review critically examines the issue of thigh tendon reinjury in athletes, drawing on recent advancements and diverse perspectives in sports medicine. The findings underscore the paramount importance of an early and accurate diagnosis, which significantly influences treatment efficacy and rehabilitation outcomes. We explore the intricacies of tendon anatomy and the mechanisms underlying injuries, highlighting how these factors interplay with athlete-specific risk profiles to affect reinjury rates.

This review article aims to summarize the latest evidence supporting the causal role of lipoprotein(a) in ASCVD and the potential strategies to reduce the lipoprotein(a) burden until clinical trial results are available. Epidemiological and genetic data demonstrate the causal link between lipoprotein(a) and increased ASCVD risk.

Background: Maintaining low concentrations of plasma low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLc) over time decreases the number of LDL particles trapped within the artery wall, slows the progression of atherosclerosis and delays the age at which mature atherosclerotic plaques develop. This substantially reduces the lifetime risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) events. In this context, plaque development and vulnerability result not only from lipid accumulation but also from inflammation.

Introduction: Statins are the primary therapeutic approach for treating hypercholesterolemia in hyperlipidemic high cardiovascular-risk patients, as stated by the recent European and American guidelines. However, in some patients, statin treatment is not sufficient to achieve the recommended plasma LDL-C levels, and the addition of a second hypolipidemic drug becomes mandatory. Concomitant administration of multiple medications may increase the risk of adverse events, potentially leading to statin-associated muscle or liver symptoms and non-adherence or discontinuation of statin therapy, such as in women.

Our narrative review aimed to assess the clinical effects of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitors on coronary plaque characteristics specifically focusing from atheroma progression to regression and stabilization.
Recent Findings: The combination of statin therapy and PCSK9 inhibitors (evolocumab and alirocumab) promotes plaque stability in patients following an acute coronary syndrome.
Objectives: Dietary strategies to improve arachidonic acid:eicosapentaenoic acid (AA:EPA) ratios are of interest due to potential reductions in inflammation and oxidative stress following exercise. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of a novel dietary intervention, that is, the ingestion of 30 g of dark chocolate, on blood lipid profiles and gut microbiota composition in elite male soccer players.
Methods: Professional male soccer players were randomly assigned to the experimental group (DC) provided with 30 g of dark chocolate or to the control group (WC), provided with 30 g of white chocolate, for 30 days.
Background: Acute illness can result in changes in serum total thyroxine (tT4), total triiodothyronine (tT3), and thyrotropin (TSH) concentrations in euthyroid dogs defined as nonthyroidal illness syndrome, but longitudinal evaluation of these hormones during the recovery phase is lacking.
Objectives: To longitudinally evaluate serum tT4, tT3, and TSH concentrations during the acute phase and recovery from acute illness in dogs.
Animals: Nineteen euthyroid client-owned dogs hospitalized for acute illness at a veterinary teaching hospital.
Inhibitors of the factor FXI represent a new class of anticoagulant agents that are facing clinical approval for the treatment of acute coronary syndrome (ACS), venous thromboembolism (VTE), and stroke prevention of atrial fibrillation (AF). These new inhibitors include chemical small molecules (asundexian and milvexian), monoclonal antibodies (abelacimab, osocimab, and xisomab), and antisense oligonucleotides (IONIS-FXIRX and fesomersen), and thus, they have very peculiar and different pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties. Besides their clinical efficacy and safety, based on their pharmacological heterogeneity, the use of these drugs in patients with comorbidities may undergo drug-drug interactions (DDIs) with other concomitant therapies.

Since 1987, statins have represented the milestone for the treatment of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

However, the extent to which articulatory reconstruction supports speech perception remains unclear. This study explores the relationship between articulatory reconstruction and task difficulty.

These data are derived mainly from experimental studies in healthy dogs and not from animals with spontaneous disease.
Hypothesis And Objective: To determine the timeline for recovery of the HPA axis in a group of ill dogs treated with intermediate-acting glucocorticoids (IAGCs).
Introduction: Hypothyroidism can be easily misdiagnosed in dogs, and prediction models can support clinical decision-making, avoiding unnecessary testing and treatment. The aim of this study is to develop and internally validate diagnostic prediction models for hypothyroidism in dogs by applying machine-learning algorithms.
Methods: A single-institutional cross-sectional study was designed searching the electronic database of a Veterinary Teaching Hospital for dogs tested for hypothyroidism.
Cellular senescence is characterized by proliferation and migration exhaustion, senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP), and oxidative stress. Senescent vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) contribute to cardiovascular diseases and atherosclerotic plaque instability. Since there are no unanimously agreed senescence markers in human VSMCs, to improve our knowledge, we looked for new possible senescence markers.
