Electrospray ionization (ESI) mass spectrometry (MS) is a widely used tool for the characterization of organometallic nanoclusters. By matching experimental mass spectra with calculated isotope distributions it is possible to determine the elemental composition of these analytes. Establishing accurate mathematical models of outcome measures is essential in understanding change throughout the rehabilitation process. The goal of this study is to identify the best-fitting descriptive models for a set of commonly adopted outcome measures found within the Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems National Database where the modeling is based on data submission through 2011 and the complete range of recorded time points since injury for each individual, where time points range from admission to rehabilitation to 20 years postinjury. The statistical methodology and the application of the methodology contained herein may be used to assist researchers and clinicians in (1) modeling the outcome measures considered, (2) modeling various portions of these outcomes by stratification and/or truncating time periods, (3) modeling longitudinal outcome measures not considered, and (4) establishing models as a necessary precursor in conducting individual growth curve analysis.

Military personnel engage in unhealthy alcohol use at rates higher than their same age, civilian peers, resulting in negative consequences for the individual and jeopardized force readiness for the armed services. The ternary clusters (tmeda)(6)Zn(14-x)Mn(x)S(13)Cl(2) (1a-d) and (tmeda)(6)Zn(14-x)Mn(x)Se(13)Cl(2) (2a-d), (tmeda = N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine; x ≈ 2-8) and the binary clusters (tmeda)(6)Zn(14)E(13)Cl(2) (E = S, 3; Se, 4;) have been isolated by reacting (tmeda)Zn(ESiMe(3))(2) with Mn(II) and Zn(II) salts. Single crystal X-ray analysis of the complexes confirms the presence of the six "(tmeda)ZnE(2)" units as capping ligands that stabilize the clusters, and distorted tetrahedral geometry around the metal centers. Mn(II) is incorporated into the ZnE framework by substitution of Zn(II) ions in the cluster.

The ligation of a N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) to group 11 metal salts (Cu, Ag) was explored as an alternative to PR(3) ligands for the formation of copper- and silver-chalcogenolate cluster complexes. AgOAc and CuCl salts ligate with the NHC 1,3-di-isopropylbenzimidazole-2-ylidene ((i)Pr(2)-bimy) forming [Ag(OAc)((i)Pr(2)-bimy)] 1, [Ag(OAc)((i)Pr(2)-bimy)(2)] 2, [CuCl((i)Pr(2)-bimy)](2)3 and [CuCl((i)Pr(2)-bimy)(2)] 4 depending on the ratio of ligand to metal used. These have been characterized via spectroscopic and crystallographic methods.

Reaction of a mixture of CuCl, PhSnCl(3) and PEt(2)Ph with S(SiMe(3))(2) in THF resulted initially in the unexpected synthesis of the ionic, mixed copper-tin sulfide cluster [Li(thf)(4)][Cu(19)S(28)(SnPh)(12)(PEt(2)Ph)(3)] in low yields. However, by adding NBu(4)Cl to the reaction solutions we were able to selectively synthesize the structurally similar cluster ion in (NBu(4))[Cu(19)S(28)(SnPh)(12)(PEt(2)Ph)(3)]. Structural characterization by single crystal X-ray analysis reveals that the cluster anions consist in principle of a copper sulfide core decorated by PhSn(3+) groups.

Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and advanced related methods such as diffusion spectrum and kurtosis imaging are limited by low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at conventional field strengths. DTI at 7 T can provide increased SNR; however, B0 and B1 inhomogeneity and shorter T2⁎ still pose formidable challenges.
