Lower extremity amputations (LEAs) are a burdensome complication of peripheral artery disease (PAD) and/or arterial embolism and thrombosis (AET). We assessed the trends in PAD- and/or AET-related LEAs in Romania. This retrospective study (2015-2019) analyzed data on minor and major LEAs in hospitalized patients recorded in the National School for Public Health, Management, and Health Education database.

A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, and Clarivate Analytics Web of Science and we identified 22 records. No difference in caloric and macronutrient intake between SJL groups was observed in studies that enrolled healthy young adults.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOxidative stress plays a key role in the development of chronic diabetes-related complications. Previous metabolomic studies showed a positive association of diabetes and insulin resistance with branched-chain amino acids (AAs) and aromatic AAs. The purpose of this research is to identify distinct metabolic changes associated with increased oxidative stress, as assessed by nitrotyrosine levels, in type 2 diabetes (T2DM).

Methods: The study sample consisted of 100 consecutive adult (≥18 years) patients with T2D without a prior diagnosis of sleep apnea recruited from an outpatient diabetes clinic. All patients underwent an in-hospital cardiorespiratory study using a three-channel portable sleep diagnostic tool; 64 were found to have sleep apnea, 36 were not.
Aims: An imbalance in advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and NADH formation has been associated with diabetic chronic kidney disease (CKD) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). No data have been reported on simultaneous measurement of AGEs and NADH in type 2 diabetes (T2DM) patients. We aimed to compare AGEs, NADH and the AGEs-to-NADH ratio in T2DM and controls, and to assess its relationship with diabetic CKD and CVD.

Methods: This was an epidemiological study with a stratified, cross-sectional, cluster random sampling design. Sociodemographic, lifestyle, and anamnestic data were collected through self- and interviewer-administered questionnaires, and biochemical assays and oral glucose tolerance tests were performed.
