Objectives: To identify, chart and analyse the literature on recent initiatives to improve long-term care (LTC) coverage, financial protection and financial sustainability for persons aged 60 and older.
Design: Rapid scoping review.
Data Sources: Four databases and four sources of grey literature were searched for reports published between 2017 and 2022.
Objectives: The COVID-19 pandemic has stimulated growing research on treatment options. We aim to provide an overview of the characteristics of studies evaluating COVID-19 treatment.
Design: Rapid scoping review DATA SOURCES: Medline, Embase and biorxiv/medrxiv from inception to 15 May 2021.
Background: The objective of this review was to examine the current guidelines for infection prevention and control (IPAC) of coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) or other coronaviruses in adults 60 years or older living in long-term care facilities (LTCF).
Methods: EMBASE, MEDLINE, Cochrane library, pre-print servers, clinical trial registries, and relevant grey literature sources were searched until July 31, 2020, using database searching and an automated method called Continuous Active Learning® (CAL®). All search results were processed using CAL® to identify the most likely relevant citations that were then screened by a single human reviewer.
We present a case of bilateral closed flexor pollicis longus musculotendinous junction ruptures. Our case suggests multifactorial aetiology and provides further evidence for genetic influences in musculotendinous junction injuries.

When reconstruction requires a thin flap, options have remained limited and flaps with minimal donor site morbidity that do not require secondary de-bulking have been elusive thus far. The importance of a thin and supple flap cannot be understated when dealing with challenging cases such as the dorsum of the hand or foot.

Responses of acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) patients to cytarabine (Ara-C)-based therapies are often short lived with a median overall survival of months. Therapies are under development to improve outcomes and include targeting the eukaryotic translation initiation factor (eIF4E) with its inhibitor ribavirin.

Purpose: To describe the genotype-phenotype relationship of a cohort of consecutive patients with isolated ectopia lentis (EL) secondary to ADAMTSL4 and FBN1 mutations.
Methods: Patients underwent detailed ocular, cardiovascular, and skeletal examination. This was correlated with Sanger sequencing of ADAMTSL4 and FBN1 genes.
Unlabelled: Presented at the following academic meetings:○ 56th Meeting of the Italian Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (SICPRE) Fasano (Brindisi), Italy, September 26-29, 2007○ 42nd Meeting of the European Society for Surgical Research (ESSR), Warsaw, Poland, May 21-24, 2008○ Winter Meeting, British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons, (BAPRAS) London, December 1-3, 2009BACKGROUND: The anterolateral free flap has become increasingly popular at our institution year on year. We decided to review our experience with this flap and study the reasons for this trend.
Methods: A retrospective review of all anterolateral thigh free flaps performed at Addenbrooke's University Hospital from the available charts was carried out.
Benign symmetrical lipomatosis (Madelung disease) is a rare metabolic disorder characterized by the presence of multiple, symmetric, nonencapsulated fat masses in the face, neck, and shoulders. The clinical course is slow, typically one of slow progressive enlargement with cosmetic and functional sequelae. The authors describe a case in which an open surgical approach was performed to treat this disorder, with good results.

Purpose: To present a case of acute glaucoma secondary to massive transit of triamcinolone acetonide into the anterior chamber in a pseudophakic, vitrectomized eye following intravitreal injection for treatment of cystoid macular edema.
Setting: Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.
Method: Case study.

Aim: To document the results of endoscopic orbital decompression performed in a group of patients with thyroid eye disease in order to improve cosmesis.
Methods: A retrospective case review was performed of all patients who had undergone endoscopic orbital decompression for cosmesis in our departments during the period January 1996 to September 2002. A postal questionnaire was sent to all patients who had undergone the operation, in order to assess patient satisfaction.
Thrombocytopenia commonly occurs in hospitalized patients, particularly critically ill patients. We present an exemplifying case of severe heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) in an effort to solidify its high priority in the differential diagnosis of thrombocytopenia. A 75-year-old female underwent cardiac surgery with intraaortic balloon pump (IABP) placement.

We present a unique case of atraumatic infection leading to multifocal metastatic spread in a neutropenic patient, emphasising the devastating potential of this disease.

The anterolateral thigh free flap is described in terms of its surgical anatomy, techniques of elevation and its application in seven cases of trauma to the hand. The particular advantages of this free flap for reconstructing a variety of hand defects are demonstrated. Flap refinements that have potential applications for hand surgery are described.

Methods: The posterior capsule of the lens, which was infiltrated with deposits, was collected during surgery. The specimen was stained with hematoxylin and eosin, with periodic acid-Schiff, and for melanin.
We have described the application of the rotation flap to the dorsum of the hand. This has proved useful for closing certain defects on the dorsum of the hand. The flap is designed as a rotation flap and the secondary defect is then closed by advancement using the laxity at the dorsal wrist crease.

Apoptotic cells were identified by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labelling (TUNEL).

It may also pose a diagnostic dilemma, which can only be settled by biopsy. Malignant change in glomangioma is extremely rare and only a few cases are well documented in literature.

The anatomy of the abdominal subcutaneous tissues is discussed in the light of data obtained in 20 female patients examined on a modern computed tomographic system. We have shown that the superficial fascia, which separates the superficial and deep layers of subcutaneous fat, forms a continuous circumferential fascial plane. This superficial fascia, contrary to previous reports, does not appear to merge with the deep fascial plane around the external oblique muscle.
