A retrospective review of elevated lead impedances in impedance-dependent magnetic resonance-conditional spinal cord stimulation devices.

Objectives: Advances in Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) device technology in recent years have led to the development of SCS systems that are magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-conditional, most of which are dependent on normal lead impedances. The objective of this study was to retrospectively analyze the rate of elevated lead impedance in these devices to determine the rate of failure of MR-conditional modes.

Materials And Methods: This was a single-center, retrospective, chart-based review conducted during a five-year period.

Radiographic lead migration in percutaneous spinal cord stimulator trials.

Introduction: Lead migration during spinal cord stimulator (SCS) trials is relatively neglected in the literature and presents a different set of challenges compared with fully implanted leads. There is no consensus on what constitutes a clinically significant amount of radiographic lead migration during SCS trials. We wished to evaluate the incidence and extent of radiographic lead migration during percutaneous SCS trials, to investigate the risk factors for lead migration and whether this has impacted on trial success.

Pre-Outpatient Group Education and Assessment in Chronic Pain: A Systematic Review.

Background: Pre-outpatient interventions in chronic pain have the potential to improve patient self-management earlier in primary or secondary care, which may minimize pain chronicity and negative health outcomes. The literature for this is sparse, and there are no existing systematic reviews on this topic.

Methods: The purpose of this systematic review is to examine the evidence for pre-outpatient group interventions in chronic pain.

Quantifying the impact of COVID-19 on chronic pain services in the Republic of Ireland.

Introduction: During the COVID-19 pandemic, most medical services were shut down and resources were redistributed. Closures included pain management departments where many staff were redeployed. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of COVID-19 on chronic pain services in the Republic of Ireland.

Diagnosing, fast and slow.

Diagnostic error is increasingly recognised as a source of significant morbidity and mortality in medicine. In this article, we will attempt to address several questions relating to clinical decision making; How do we decide on a diagnosis? Why do we so often get it wrong? Can we improve our critical faculties?We begin by describing a clinical vignette in which a medical error occurred and resulted in an adverse outcome for a patient. This case leads us to the concepts of heuristic thinking and cognitive bias.

Introduction: Studies involving Twitter and chronic pain can provide highly valuable patient-generated information. The aim of this paper was to examine pain-related tweets in Ireland over a 2-week period from 22 June 2017 to 5 July 2017 using pain-related keywords. We wished to identify Twitter user gender profile; most common discussion topics; sentiment analysis; and dissemination of tweets.
