Unlabelled: The objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical and functional outcomes of intra-articular distal tibial fractures after intramedullary nail (IMN) and independent fixation compared with extra-articular fracture controls.

Methods: A retrospective chart review of distal tibial fractures treated with IMN was performed. Clinical outcomes were compared between fractures with and without intra-articular involvement.

Case: A 69-year-old woman presented with a brachial artery pseudoaneurysm causing median, ulnar, and radial nerve compressive neuropathies 8 weeks after a proximal humerus shaft fracture treated with intramedullary nailing. She underwent a brachial artery bypass with a reverse cephalic vein interposition graft and neurolysis after decompression of a large pseudoaneurysm. Postoperatively, the patient had a normal vascular examination with recovering neurological function.

Purpose: To determine whether surgeon specialty affects complications after open operative care of distal upper-extremity fractures.

Methods: We performed a retrospective cross-sectional study using the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Database from 2005 to 2016. Patients were included if they received open operative treatment by an orthopedic or a plastic surgeon for distal radius/ulna, carpal, metacarpal, or phalangeal fracture.

Under conditions with or without linker molecules, the effects of acidic pH on the conformation of yeast iso-1-cytochrome c coated onto gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) in correlation with color changes of a Cyt c-coated AuNPs solution/suspension were examined by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and correlated to color change. The results of detailed secondary structural analysis revealed that although the color changes coincide with acid-induced conformational changes in Cyt c coated onto AuNPs, the pH-related conformational unfolding of Cyt c coated onto AuNPs differed dramatically from that of its counterpart in solution. For Cyt c free in solution, the acid-induced unfolding did not occur until the pH was below 3.

The General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry Knowledge Assessment (GOB-CKA) is a multiple-choice instrument designed to assess students' understanding of the chemistry topics deemed important to clinical nursing practice. This manuscript describes the development process of the individual items along with a psychometric evaluation of the final version of the items and instrument. In developing items for the GOB-CKA, essential topics were identified through a series of expert interviews (with practicing nurses, nurse educators, and GOB chemistry instructors) and confirmed through a national survey.
