Infections have been associated with the incidence of Alzheimer disease and related dementias, but the mechanisms responsible for these associations remain unclear. Using a multicohort approach, we found that influenza, viral, respiratory, and skin and subcutaneous infections were associated with increased long-term dementia risk. These infections were also associated with region-specific brain volume loss, most commonly in the temporal lobe.

In the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging, we quantified 942 immunological proteins in plasma and identified 32 (including CAT [catalase], CD36 [CD36 antigen], and KRT19 [keratin 19]) associated with rates of cortical Aβ accumulation measured with positron emission tomography (PET). Longitudinal changes in a subset of candidate proteins also predicted Aβ progression, and the mid- to late-life (20-year) trajectory of one protein, CAT, was associated with late-life Aβ-positive status in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study.

Material And Methods: Analysis of RGS activity during the period 2018-2022, focusing on pre-surgical and surgical procedures related to breast cancer (BC) and malignant melanoma (MM), as they are those pathologies on which the transfer of care competencies was concentrated.
Background: Proteins expressed by brain endothelial cells (BECs), the primary cell type of the blood-brain barrier, may serve as sensitive plasma biomarkers for neurological and neurovascular conditions, including cerebral small vessel disease.
Methods: Using data from the BLSA (Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging; n=886; 2009-2020), BEC-enriched proteins were identified among 7268 plasma proteins (measured with SomaScanv4.1) using an automated annotation algorithm that filtered endothelial cell transcripts followed by cross-referencing with BEC-specific transcripts reported in single-cell RNA-sequencing studies.

Vicinal Au(111) surfaces exhibit periodic faceting within a wide range of miscut angles. There, the system segregates two alternating phases with different step lattice constants d(w) and d(n). In the [3H]TCP binding assay, inhibition curves of ifenprodil, eliprodil, haloperidol and trifluperidol revealed two affinity states in the presence of glutamate, glycine and spermidine. The potency of these agents to inhibit the high-affinity fraction of the binding agreed with the results of other studies investigating their potency to block glutamate-induced current at recombinant NR1a/NR2B NMDA receptors expressed in Xenopus oocytes.
