Behavioral interventions could lead to changes in behavior through changes in a mediator. This dose-response relationship might only hold true for those participants who are actively engaged in interventions. This Internet study investigated the role of engagement in a planning intervention to promote fruit and vegetable consumption in addition to testing the intervention effect on planning and behavior.

Intramolecular homolytic substitution of sulfinates and sulfinamides.

A general and efficient method for the synthesis of cyclic sulfinates and sulfinamides based on intramolecular homolytic substitution (S(H)i) at the sulfur atom by aryl or alkyl radicals is described. Both alkyl and benzofused compounds can be accessed directly from easily prepared acyclic precursors. Enantiomerically enriched sulfur-based heterocycles were formed through an S(H)i process with inversion of configuration at the sulfur atom.

Laparoscopic creation of pericardial window.

Malignant pericardial effusions are frequently symptomatic and usually recur after aspiration. Surgical options include pericardiectomy and transthoracic or subxiphoid pericardial window formation and, more recently, thoracoscopic pericardial window formation. The authors report their first four cases of laparoscopic creation of pericardial windows.

Thoracoscopy: a useful diagnostic and therapeutic procedure.

This study was performed to review the place of thoracoscopy in the diagnosis and treatment of intrathoracic disorders. Because these components are not water soluble, use of pristinamycin has up till now been confined to the oral route. Garlic (Allium sativum L.) water- and ethanol-soluble extracts were prepared and purified by column chromatography. They were tested on garlic-sensitive patients and showed that the allergenic fraction was well located in a few column chromatography fractions.
