Background: Malaria primarily affects populations living in poor socioeconomic conditions, with limited access to basic services, deteriorating environmental conditions, and barriers to accessing health services. Control programmes are designed without participation from the communities involved, ignoring local knowledge and sociopolitical and cultural dynamics surrounding their main health problems, which implies imposing decontextualized control measures that reduce coverage and the impact of interventions. The objective of this study was to determine the community perception of malaria in the municipality of Olaya Herrera in the Colombian Pacific.

Purpose: Optimisation strategies for volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) in most treatment planning systems for breast cancer do not account for patient positioning, breathing, or anatomical changes. To overcome this limitation, a pseudo-skin flash strategy using a virtual bolus has been proposed. Using this strategy, we determined optimal thickness and value of Hounsfield units (HU) assigned to the virtual bolus to ensure adequate CTV irradiation.

As a step toward implementing the Colombian Integrated Program for Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance (COIPARS), this study aimed to establish the baseline antimicrobial resistance patterns of Salmonella serovars, Escherichia coli, and Enterococcus spp. isolates in retail poultry meat from independent stores and from a main chain distributor center. MICs of the isolates were determined for antimicrobials used both in humans and animals, using an automated system.

Skill mix and role extension initiatives have highlighted the difficulty of establishing quality standards for the accuracy of plain film reporting. An acceptable performance might be one which is indistinguishable from that of a group of experienced consultant radiologists. In order to assess the feasibility of setting such a standard, the variation between experienced observers must first be established.

Bilateral three-compartment wrist arthrography was performed in 30 patients with unilateral posttraumatic wrist pain to assess the incidence of bilateral findings. The mean age of patients was 30 (range 18-55) years. Thirty-three percent of patients were normal bilaterally, 30% had unilateral communication in the symptomatic wrist, 30% had communications in both the symptomatic and asymptomatic wrists and 7% had communication in the asymptomatic wrist only.

Computed tomographic arthrography (CTA) of the shoulder is currently the best investigation of the unstable shoulder. 47 patients had CTA in the prone oblique position to assess its ability to demonstrate both anterior and posterior capsular mechanisms simultaneously. The first five patients were also scanned supine oblique to allow direct comparison with the prone oblique position.

Five cases of septic sacroiliitis diagnosed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are presented. Imaging was performed between 2 and 14 days after onset of symptoms and consisted of varying combinations of coronal short tau inversion recovery (STIR), axial T2-weighted spin echo (SE), and coronal and axial pre- and postcontrast T1-weighted SE scans. Abnormalities included demonstration of sacroiliac joint effusions, bone oedema and adjacent inflammation as high signal on STIR and T2-weighted SE scans, and identification of abscesses in two cases as rim-enhancing lesions anterior to the joint on gadolinium-enhanced T1-weighted SE scans.

A case is presented of lipoma arborescens of the knee with an atypical, sudden onset. Arthrography and ultrasound confirmed a synovially based lesion in the suprapatellar pouch. CT enabled a preoperative diagnosis of lipoma arborescens to be made, which was confirmed by surgical excision of a fronded fatty mass.
