An intensive care nurse with eczema was repeatedly treated for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) carriage. Because cultures remained positive for MRSA, her house was investigated. Thirty-four percent of environmental samples yielded MRSA.

A 12-year-old Dutch boy was admitted because of severe neurotrauma after a traffic accident. On day 33 after admission, a Plasmodium falciparum infection was found in a routine blood smear. Most probably he was infected by blood of a patient next to him, a girl with severe malaria tropica.
