Pharmacy Students' Self-Reported Cultural Competence in a Pharmacy Curriculum by Academic Year.

Objective: This study aims to explore the results of a Cultural Competency Assessment of Pharmacy Students (CCAPS) survey to identify areas where cultural competence content in one college of pharmacy curriculum can be improved.

Methods: The 39-item CCAPS survey was developed and administered to Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) students from July 2022 (after the end of the didactic curriculum and at the beginning of experiential rotations for fourth-year students) to October 2022 (at the beginning of the fall semester for first-year, second-year, and third-year students). Self-perception of cultural competency items were selected from the Cultural Competence Assessment Instrument and the Clinical Cultural Competency Questionnaire items.

Implementation and Evaluation of Clinical Decision Support for Apixaban Dosing in a Community Teaching Hospital.

Objectives: This study aimed to describe and evaluate the transition from a specialty service-based prospective order approval system to a computerized clinical decision support (CCDS) tool for apixaban dosing at a community teaching hospital. The primary objective was to assess the impact of the transition on the appropriateness of apixaban prescribing.

Methods: A CCDS tool for apixaban dosing was developed and implemented using interprofessional collaboration.

As direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) have become widely recommended as first-line anticoagulation therapy, patients who remain on warfarin are likely those unable to afford, adhere to, or utilize DOAC therapy due to the presence of a contraindication. It is currently unknown how availability of DOACs have affected populations being managed at warfarin (VKA) anticoagulation clinics. This was a retrospective chart review assessing warfarin-treated patients at an outpatient anticoagulation clinic.

Exploring the immunological relevance of pre-transplant donor-specific antibody in intestinal transplantation, with special consideration to the liver.

Despite recent advances that have improved outcomes following intestinal transplantation (ITx), achieving long-term patient survival and rejection-free survival is still challenging. Understanding the relevance of pre-transplant human leukocyte antigen (HLA) donor-specific antibody (DSA) in ITx and the immunomodulatory potential of the liver within the allograft is crucial to providing an accurate assessment of pre-transplant immunological risk, which could influence and improve post-transplant outcomes further. This was the primary objective of this retrospective study of 95 adult ITx transplants which took place at Cambridge University Hospitals (United Kingdom) between 2007 and 2019.

Patient exposure to alloantigen from another individual is a common occurrence and takes place through pregnancies, blood transfusions or previous transplantation.

A 34-item survey was developed and administered at 5 pharmacy programs in NYS.

Introduction: At present, very few autistic people are employed, even though many want to be. It is important that their strengths are identified and valued to help them to find jobs that they enjoy, and that make good use of their skills. The aim of this study was to investigate what strengths autistic people have in the workplace, self-reported by autistic people themselves.

The present agrochemical safety evaluation paradigm is long-standing and anchored in well-established testing and evaluation procedures. However, it does not meet the present-day challenges of rapidly growing populations, food insecurity, and pressures from climate change. Methods: A retrospective chart review of patients diagnosed with OUD who received treatment with buprenorphine between December 2006 and January 2018 was conducted at private family medicine practice in semirural Upstate New York.

Rodent cancer bioassays have been long-required studies for regulatory assessment of human cancer hazard and risk. These studies use hundreds of animals, are resource intensive, and certain aspects of these studies have limited human relevance. The past 10 years have seen an exponential growth of new technologies with the potential to effectively evaluate human cancer hazard and risk while reducing, refining, or replacing animal use.

Opportunities and challenges related to saturation of toxicokinetic processes: Implications for risk assessment.

Top dose selection for repeated dose animal studies has generally focused on identification of apical endpoints, use of the limit dose, or determination of a maximum tolerated dose (MTD). The intent is to optimize the ability of toxicity tests performed in a small number of animals to detect effects for hazard identification. An alternative approach, the kinetically derived maximum dose (KMD), has been proposed as a mechanism to integrate toxicokinetic (TK) data into the dose selection process.

As a result of infection control regulations during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, anticoagulation clinics have been required to adjust their practices in order to continue providing safe and effective services for their patients. In accordance with a guidance document issued by the Anticoagulation Forum, The Brooklyn Hospital Center (TBHC) anticoagulation clinic in Brooklyn, New York implemented measures including telemedicine follow-ups instead of in-person clinic visits, extending the interval of INR testing, and reviewing eligible candidates for transition from warfarin to direct oral anticoagulants. This study describes the outcomes of one hospital-based clinic location in the 3 months before and after COVID-19 became a significant concern in the New York City area.

Elucidating user behaviours in a digital health surveillance system to correct prevalence estimates.

Estimating seasonal influenza prevalence is of undeniable public health importance, but remains challenging with traditional datasets due to cost and timeliness. Digital epidemiology has the potential to address this challenge, but can introduce sampling biases that are distinct to traditional systems. In online participatory health surveillance systems, the voluntary nature of the data generating process must be considered to address potential biases in estimates.

Students' perceptions of global health competencies in the doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) curriculum.

In this work we investigate the stochastic dynamics of the emergence of a novel disease strain, introduced into a population in which it must compete with an existing endemic strain.

In an outbreak of an emerging disease the epidemiological characteristics of the pathogen may be largely unknown. A key determinant of ability to control the outbreak is the relative timing of infectiousness and symptom onset. We provide a method for identifying this relationship with high accuracy based on data from simulated household-stratified symptom-onset data.
