The River Moriston in NW Scotland is a cobble-gravel bedded river that has been dammed and regulated for hydroelectric power (HEP) since 1956. The river supports a functional population of the critically endangered freshwater pearl mussel (Margaritifera margaritifera) in the lower part. In contrast the population in the upper reach is sparse and shows no signs of juvenile recruitment, leading to speculation that hydrological and geomorphic changes associated with HEP have degraded the habitat they depend on.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFT lymphocytes express a range of tyrosine kinases that are involved in signalling processes driving cell activation, proliferation and differentation. Two tyrosine kinases expressed only in T cells, the Itk/Emt and Txk gene products, are members of the Tec family of kinases. The role of Tec kinases in cellular function is poorly understood, although a Tec kinase specific to B cells, Btk, is essential for B-cell development.

Selection of antibodies of defined specificity enabled measurement of both the pro and active forms of the metalloproteinase. Free TIMP was quantified by the selection of a monoclonal antibody which did not recognise TIMP when complexed with metalloproteinases.
