Effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on surgery for indeterminate thyroid nodules (THYCOVID): a retrospective, international, multicentre, cross-sectional study.

Background: Since its outbreak in early 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has diverted resources from non-urgent and elective procedures, leading to diagnosis and treatment delays, with an increased number of neoplasms at advanced stages worldwide. The aims of this study were to quantify the reduction in surgical activity for indeterminate thyroid nodules during the COVID-19 pandemic; and to evaluate whether delays in surgery led to an increased occurrence of aggressive tumours.

Methods: In this retrospective, international, cross-sectional study, centres were invited to participate in June 22, 2022; each centre joining the study was asked to provide data from medical records on all surgical thyroidectomies consecutively performed from Jan 1, 2019, to Dec 31, 2021.

[Cushing's disease in pregnancy and treatment with cabergoline: obstetric and neonatal results].

Introduction:: Cushing's disease (CD) is rare during pregnancy and is associated with significant maternal and fetal complications. The aim was to report the case of a patient with CD who achieved pregnancy and delivery without complications after treatment with low doses of cabergoline.

Methods:: A 29-year-old woman diagnosed with CD (ACTH-secreting macro-tumor that produces displacement of the optic chiasm, infiltrates the right cavernous sinus and includes the internal carotid artery).

Acromegaly and thyroid cancer: analysis of evolution in a series of patients.

Background: Acromegaly is associated with higher morbidity and mortality mainly due to cardiovascular disease. Data on the incidence and evolution of thyroid cancer in acromegaly are controversial. Our objective was to describe the characteristics of a group of acromegalic patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) and analyze their evolution.

[Hypoparathyroidism treated with recombinant human parathyroid hormone [rhPTH(1-84)]].

Hypoparathyroidism (HypoPT) is a rare disease characterized by low calcium and inappropriately low circulating parathormone levels. We present the case of a 25-year-old high-performance athlete male, with history of HypoPT after total thyroidectomy for papillary thyroid carcinoma (T3 N1b M0) two years before, who was referred to our clinic for symptomatic hypocalcemia. The patient reported serum calcium average levels of 7mg%, presented symptoms of hypocalcemia at rest and had multiple hospital admissions.

Renoprotective effect of high periprocedural doses of oral N-acetylcysteine in patients scheduled to undergo a same-day angiography.

Background: Few studies that have assessed the effect of abbreviated oral N-acetylcysteine (NAC) regimens in radiocontrast-induced nephropathy (RCIN) yield mixed results.

Objective: To evaluate the renoprotective effect of high periprocedural oral doses (HPOD) of NAC in patients with chronic renal impairment undergoing a same-day angiography.

Methods: Sixty one patients with renal impaired function scheduled to undergo a same-day angiography were randomly assigned to NAC 1200 mg orally 3 hours before and 3 after the procedure, or a placebo.

[Primary osteoporosis risk factors in women from Córdoba, Argentina].

Unlabelled: Risk factors for osteoporosis were evaluated in women from Cordoba, Argentina. Female patients that consulted about diagnosis or treatment of osteoporosis from January 2000 to June 2002 were included. Secondary osteoporosis patients were excluded.
