Article Synopsis
  • Psychotic disorders can hinder recovery, making functional improvement challenging after hospitalization, which is a critical time for intervention.
  • A study analyzed 453 individuals with acute psychosis over a year to explore factors affecting functional recovery, identifying three groups: “improving,” “stable,” and “worsening” function.
  • Notably, those starting with more severe symptoms tended to improve function over time, and while the "improving" and "stable" groups showed lasting psychiatric symptoms improvements, the "worsening" group’s initial gains did not sustain.
  • These findings suggest that focusing on functional recovery is crucial, rather than just preventing relapses.

Background: Neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (LUTD) results in lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) that impact quality of life in people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS). The risk factors and the contribution of LUTD to multiple sclerosis (MS) disease progression are under-researched.

Objective: To identify clinical and demographic predictors of LUTS in PwMS and gaps in clinical ascertainment.

Article Synopsis
  • SSADH deficiency is a genetic disorder that disrupts the breakdown of GABA, leading to increased levels of GABA and GHB in the brain.
  • Advanced MR spectroscopy techniques were used to measure elevated GABA concentrations in a large group of patients, revealing age-related differences in GABA levels across three brain regions.
  • Structural MRI showed hyperintensities in specific brain areas like the globus pallidus and dentate nucleus in SSADH deficiency patients compared to healthy controls.

Objective: Pathological Wnt pathway activation is a conserved hallmark of colorectal cancer. Wnt-activating mutations can be divided into: i) ligand-independent (LI) alterations in intracellular signal transduction proteins (, β-catenin), causing constitutive pathway activation and ii) ligand-dependent (LD) mutations affecting the synergistic R-Spondin axis (, -fusions) acting through amplification of endogenous Wnt signal transmembrane transduction. Our aim was to exploit differential Wnt target gene expression to generate a mutation-agnostic biomarker for LD tumours.

Objective: Individuals requiring psychiatric emergency services are often highly distressed and intoxicated. To provide an objective and comprehensive measure of their stress-related physiological dysregulations, we indexed allostatic load with 14 biomarkers collected within 24 h of patients' admission to the largest psychiatric hospital in the Canadian province of Quebec.

Methods: This study (N = 278) combines data for emergency patients (n = 76; 65.
