The femoroacetabular contact force and pressure are increased in the anterosuperior segment of the acetabulum in femoroacetabular impingement syndrome. We developed a special device for femoroacetabular contact force measurement in hip arthroscopy and present the surgical technique for measuring femoroacetabular contact force in the intact joint with a cam morphology and after cam resection, with the hip in different positions in a cadaver specimen. The device is introduced into the joint peripheral compartment.

The objective of our study was to objectively measure the tibiotalar angular movement under gravity stress after progressive sectioning of the lateral ankle ligaments.
Methods: We performed sequential sectioning of the anterior talofibular (ATFL), calcaneofibular (CFL), and posterior talofibular ligaments (PTFL) in twelve ankle specimens.
Background: Regardless of fibular status, the presence of a superficial deltoid ligament disruption or a combination of deep and superficial deltoid ligament disruption is central to the decision-making process in treating ankle fractures. The aims of the present study were to test whether ultrasonography can assess deltoid ligament integrity and to determine its validity and reliability by comparing it with gravity stress radiography.
Methods: A consecutive series of 81 eligible patients with a nondisplaced or minimally displaced fibula fracture identified on a standard radiograph were prospectively enrolled.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the biomechanical properties of a graft construct with quadrupled Semitendinosus and two cortical buttons with adjustable loops concerning elongation, stiffness and resistance. A total of 15 fresh human cadaveric semitendinosus tendons were quadrupled over the two adjustable loops and stitched at the tibial tip with a cerclage type suture. They underwent pre-tensioning at 300 N for 2 minutes followed by cyclic loading (1000 cycles between 50-250 N) and finally a load-to-failure test.

Methods: We prospectively included 590 patients and evaluated 1111 hips with semi-automated CT analysis. We calculated overall, side- and sex-specific parameters for imaging signs of cam [omega and alpha angle (α°)] and pincer-type morphology [acetabular version (ACvers), lateral centre-edge angle (LCEA) and cranio-caudal coverage].
Objective: Our objectives were to use 3D computed tomography (CT) to define head-neck morphologic gender-specific and normative parameters in asymptomatic individuals and use the omega angle (Ω°) to provide quantification data on the location and radial extension of a cam deformity.
Methods: We prospectively included 350 individuals and evaluated 188 asymptomatic hips that underwent semiautomated CT analysis. Different thresholds of alpha angle (α°) were considered in order to analyze cam morphology and determine Ω°.
Background: There is a wide discrepancy in reported prevalence rates for cam, pincer, and mixed femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), particularly among distinct populations, namely asymptomatic or symptomatic subjects and athletes. No systematic analysis to date has yet compared studies among these groups to determine differences in radiographic signs of FAI.
Methods: A systematic review of existing literature was performed to determine the prevalence of radiographic signs of FAI among athletes, asymptomatic subjects, and symptomatic patients.
Hip fractures (HF) following low-impact trauma are the most visible and dramatic consequences of osteoporosis (OP). It is estimated that within one year after HF, 20 to 30% of the patients die, 50-60% become disabled and only 30-40% fully recover their previous functional levels. Therefore, its medical, societal and economic impact is huge and it is not fully delivered by the event itself, but rather by its consequences.
